OK, so I was bored and I took 20 minutes to make myself a banner in MSPaint. And then I find out that it's something like 170 KB. It's a 24-bit bitmap image. Is there any way that I can convert it to something that I can't comfortably put on the internet...something no bigger than 20 KB?
I tried GIF and JPEG, they're small but they screw up the image.
With a little tinkering I converted it to a 256-color bitmap, and that's about 40 KB. Would you say that 40 KB is OK for a web image?
bigger than that, including a 229 KB one.
yeah.

why don't you post your original image. I have GIF Animator 4.0, and it can make GIFs really small..
GIF is lossless compression. If you can convert it to 256 color confortably in BMP, you can do it smaller without any loss in detail to a GIF file. Email the file to joe at betterwebber.com, and I'll give you a nice, mucho small, gif file that doesnt look distorted.
Hmm, Agamemnus, I don't have a place to host the image. I could do it with my paid server, but bandwidth, ya know?
I'll email the 256-color 40 KB image to Toonski.

Thanks for the offer, though, Agamemnus.
Send the bigger one. It'll look better that way.
