I just had a thought(I don't know how unique it is.. but anyway), about having small web design challenges. Basically for the(or a challenge if its liked) a simple page with content a few graphics is available and then people have a week or so to work on a design incorporating some of the graphics and content included. There would be 3 judges or maybe just everyone votes.

I'm just posting to see if anyone is interested, it would be a good chance to learn and practise and show off web design skills.

So if you're up for a challenge, post here or PM/email me.
Yeah, sure. Just let me know when the challenge starts and I'll join.
Interesting...
If I get some kind of operation on my brain to come up with good interfaces, then maybe I'll participate. Right now I'm working on transferring venosoft's files to the new server. I'll be working on the new venosoft site soon though.
I'd enter the contest...
I have an idead for the judging: make sure there is one judge for code efficiency (i.e. higher score for maximized stylesheet use), one judge for aesthetics and another to judge the graphics. Then average out all the judges scores put together, and that would be the final score.

I'd actually be interested in judging aesthetics, if the place is available.
Zack, your link to QBNZ is down. It goes to qbnz.com (aka http://www.thegeekery.org/qbnz.com) rather than http://www.qbnz.com

You know, using style sheets doesnt make your code more efficient. It's using stylesheets efficiently. There are some places where using a stylesheet isnt the best thing to do, and instances where CSS rendering differs on browsers is bad.

It should be catagorized into the following, which are based on the end result and end result alone:

1) Aesthetics - does it look nice?
2) Size - does it load quickly?
3) Functionality - is it easy to navigate and understand?

Compatibility is worked into functionality as well. Functionality will be worth the most, about 40% of the score, aesthetics and size and functionality would be worth 30% each. These are the things that make a difference on the user end.
seph: Thanks...I forgot the http:// in the HREF value in the A tag. I'll fix it in a a minute.

Toonski: Assuming that your browser fully supports CSS, maximized use of it will reduce the size of the HTML file. I meant, of course, effieciency inside the stylesheet. Too big a stylesheet = way too big a downloading time.
Then it'll reflect in the size catagory. Users could care less what the source code looks like.
Hey Zack, your MSN Messenger username doesn't work. And I want to talk to you about suggestions for making your page look a little less painful to my eyes Smile
