When was the last time you talked to him, rel?
i've talked to current owner, actually. He said its worth thousands of dollars so he'd never sell it, but his clients might be interested in my request to update it for him. I thought it was the guy who owns the domain name company at the time, but apparently it's the new owner, i guess.

You can get his email with a whois search.

and zack:
Quote:He just visited. I didn't know it was him until after about an hour of talking to him. About 6 months ago I think.

*b.itchslap*
What?

His clients? Who owns the domain, the dude who has the domain comoany? What is all this?

Could you give me his email? I would like to talk to him. I think we could get two people here to admin that site, you know, keep the content, update the layout to make it better, add new stuff and whatnot. I would if I could get the chance.

Hail.
Hells yeah! And anyway, what is he talking about by "adverts"? There's a pic for the qbt50 which died a long time ago, a "we rated with the RSAC" which has changed names...

Searching the net for "Mallard David Zohrob": possible emails
mallard@qbasic.com (defunct)
mallard@gcomm.com (untried)

Found while searching: http://www.thunderbirdatlatl.com/petesqb...icle6.html

... so the guy bought it for $2325? That explains why he's holding on to it... the guy's name was differentway... search that...

www.differentway.com. A possibility...

more research later.
Okay, I did a WHOIS search for qbasic.com and the email is...hostmaster@delgadoindustries.com. And the owner lives in MI (Michigan?).
Good work Zack!

Now, I think that the community should put together an email to email them. What exactly are we gonna ask for, what are we gonna do in return?
Oy...how about...
Dear Webmaster of QBasic.com,
On behalf of the entire QBasic/QuickBasic community, we request an update on the already-excellent QBasic website. We understand that you bought the website off David Zohrob, and we wish to thank you for keeping it alive. However, even if it is available, its resources have been running dry - there has been nothing new for several years. Please try to at least remove all the dead links, and maybe add some more files.
Sincerely, Zack, Oracle, etc. etc. etc. (everybody's signatures here).
How's that?
That's a start, but what we really want to do is do the update for him, y'know, we make the new content, so all he has to do is upload it. And more importantly, open dialogue with him for the possibility of more uploads, or even getting the domain name back off of him. In return, we could get him to send us some advertisments for whatever he wants, and we can put them on the page.
Well, I'm not sure how advanced the hosting options are with the QBasic.com server, but perhaps he could make a sort of anonymous account that lets us upload only? And...hey, I know! One of us could offer to advertise on his site!
Hmmm... I don't think you quite understand, Zack. We'll be sending an email to a guy who will most likely be busy and not have time for setting up anonymous accounts and the like... you do realise that the moment we ask for an account he'll go "Sure, that's $20 for the account and $3000 for the domain name". All we want is ONE single update where we refresh the links (and "suggest" that visitors follow them" and upload some advertising that he provides. I'll work on something and post it.
