How much would a pentium IV 2.4Ghz(With HT and without HT) differ in performance?

Will higher FSB/Bus help in boosting performance?

Where will I get a comparison between various CPUs on the web?
Go to AMD site to get such comparation charts (I saw some when I bought my XP) and get an AMD XP instead. They heat less and are cheaper, and have better performance.

For example, XP 2000 is called 2000 'cause it has the same performance as a PIV 2Ghz, but it runs in fact at 1.67 Ghz. So every Hz in an AMD XP provides better performance than in an Intel PIV. Than means that a 2.400 Mhz AMD XP has better performance than a 2.400 Mhz PIV.
Ok, if I buy an AMD Athlon XP processor will all the softwares that use HT run on an AMD XP with the same efficiency as the may on a P4 with HT?

I am looking for a lean mean extremely fast processor/system.
Keep in mind that while some of that is true, AMD tends to use their own tests in their favor for comparison.

To be honest, CPUs nowadays dont really make much of a difference between a 2.4ghz and a 2.7 ghz, or a 2.7ghz and a 3ghz. I'd wait till the second generation of each chip line to buy a new CPU and if you do it doesnt matter which type you get.

But you should really try and figure out the type of computer you want to make. For instance, are you gaming, or are you doing photoshop work, or doing video/sound editing or is this a something you'll just be typing papers on or using as a webserver? If you figure out what hardware you need (e.g. webservers dont need an nvidia fx or a radeon 9000 series vid card, and you can use the onboard sound card for something that's just a photoshop machine or something you want to type papers on).
Ok, what does that AMD XP 3000+ indicate(The 3000/2800 or what ever)?
Get a 3.08 GHZ Pentium *drools*
I'll always be faithful to the Pentium!

With or without HT?
What's HT?

Like Nath says, it means 'better than a P4 at this GHz'
Even though it actually runs at either 2.17 or 2.47GHz, compared to a P4 3GHz it offers comparable or superior performance. If you're a gamer, here's some 3DMark tests against a P4 and a review:

Good advice, Toonski. Lots of my friends have asked me what computer to buy. I always have answered with a question: What are you going to use it for? Basically that's what you're saying.

Why buy a vehicle with 4-wheel drive, a V8 engine, a winch, and huge all-terrain tires when all you're going to use it for is riding around town, going to school or work, going to the supermarket, never going off-road, never going on long trips, never going skiing to the mountains, and never hauling a boat? Unless of course you have money to burn and want to impress your friends and neighbors.
