Look, even if this was voted in, there is no modification that can be made to grant a user the ability to lock their own posts anyway. It would involve too much effort, unless everyone was made a moderator, which obviously isn't gonna happen.
See I think you havent still understood what my idea is. Basically, if this idea would be implemented, I would be the only one who will be able to lock my threads and not others. Of course the admin/moderator would have authority over it. Like I can delete my posts I can lock my threads.

And if I misuse this facility it would be just taken away. This doesnt mean we have to make all the members moderators! All this service would do is lock the thread *temporarily* until the admin/moderator approves it. If he doesnt it will be unlocked and cant be locked again until a certain number of posts are posted.

I hope I am clear.
And now I'll say it again: There is no phpBB mod that will grant you those priveleges!!!

It can't be done. The only thing that can be done is to have more moderation.
Oracle, you actually want to tell me that it will involve too much work in editing this forum. 'cause this isnt such a far off idea to be deemed as impossible. People knowing php can very well develop a new module for this purpose. :-?

I don't think you actually understand. I'm an active member of the phpBB community, and I know that to make a mod that does this you'd be introducing security risks and god knows what else. I suppose it could be done by an experienced phpBB and php person, but it sure ain't me, and out of the few people I know who could actually do it, they would not waste there time on a mod that simply wouldn't be used by the vast majority.
Ok, If that is how you all feel, then this site may lose more members because of few drifters. *Unless* moderators keep a sharp eye out for such people who harass others.

And, a small request to all on this board - please dont stretch a joke too far or else you will just piss of some other good members =(
Well, I gotta agree with both Nathan and TBQ...Nate cuz if im not at his house, then im not gonna shut up. TBQ, cuz there are some people who i wish i could shut up.

Still though, thats why there are more than one administrators. If you want that power, ask wildcard to make u a mod or admin. If he thinks he needs the help, then he will do it. I actually think that TBQ is right in saying that sometimes this forum isnt moderated enough, but wc's done a decent job.

I think giving everyone locking permissions is NOT a good idea. Any litle f***ker can come along and screw this board up...the pricks who we locked it from in the first place will unlock it etc. Personally, I would just temporarily ban those pricks...but hey, its not my house. Anyway, phpBB isn't coded like that. It's a forum used commercially, and so it has to take security under consideration. Im not even sure it could be done, because it would violate to many security procedures coded into the forum...however im not the phpBB expert here...
TBBQ: Only to clarify one thing: I understood the stuff from the very beginning. I just diagree. I just don't like being shut up.
Sorry Nathan, I may have misunderstood that you didnt quite understand.

Aetherfox, I believe that you have enlightened me. Freedom of Speech - a basic human right. Nobody likes it taken away.

Only the person starting the thread will be able to lock/unlock his/her post. I wont be able to unlock your thread and vice-versa.

My conclusion: It seems nobody is willing to shutup people who are misbehaving. Everyone feels that it is the admin/moderator's job. Lets hope that there will be more moderators on this forum =)
This site won't lose anyone because of a few "drifters", because we're smart enough to know that they'll "drift off" after a while, and no body really gets so offended by a drifter that they leave.

Aetherfox is right: it would violate too many security procedures.

So that's what moderators are for. We just don't have any, because before (when I first came here), it was a nice place (despite HD's sarcasm Wink)
