I changed the entrie size rule. Initialy I meant 0.5Mb ZIPPED but since 0.5Mb zipped can be quite a lot unzipped, I updated the rule so that entrie size limit is 1Mb unzipped. All files that come with your entrie are being counted. If you compiled your game you don't need any lib files(if you used a library in the first place). If you leave the game uncompiled you'll have to provide the lib files neccessary to run your entrie in QB IDE and they will be counted into total size of the entrie. Like I said, ALL the files. MIDI files for example, drivers neccesary to run them, ...
This rule can be bended a bit, I mean, I won't disqualify your entrie if it's 1.1. Mb large but don't go wild.

Game doesn't have to be winnable. I might have confused you when I said that it has to have an end. No, it doesn't have to have an end. It can be like Run 'Em Over where the player hunts the highest score. Sorry for not being precise. When I said head&tail I was refering to the gameplay and the interface.

YES, you can include the sound card feature if you leave it OPTIONAL.

Putting your entrie screenshots/info/alpha versions to public display before the deadline is at your own discretion. Just don't forget to formaly submitt your entrie in THIS thread before the deadline. I personaly wish that you all post info, screenshots and perhaps demos of your entries just to keep the challenge more interesting.
red_Marvin if you don't feel like putting your entrie to public display could you at least email it to me. I'm curious.

Drawed around half of the sprites/tiles. Hard to tell. One part ofthe game I might add if I find time. Butchered Ball Blazing Fantasycode so it can work for my entrie. Realized that I've discarded 2/3 of the old BBF code which I didn't needed. Also, altered the remaining code quite a lot. It's just a habbit I have. Using old code when starting a new project. I don't know. Maybe starting a new code and moving all the neccesary subs/routines from the old code might take more time. Enabled the main core of the game to work. It plays nice. Must add the routines for hazards, routines for different types of deaths, menu routines,...uhg, I have a headache.

But that's not all. Drawed the challenge award. That red thingie represents "the key". Winner's name/nick will be added to the bottom of the award. Hope it won't be too long Tongue .

Also I'm thinking about leaving my entire out of formal competition(voting poll) mainly cause I organized the challenge. I don't know. I'll see.
In case anyone doesn't yet know...Lachie's compo is soundcard optional coz Lachie has no sound card Big Grin

Ok I'll post the code of my SCREEN 7 verision sometime
(the code will not be much to steal from :lol: but I'm more afraid
that somebody will steal my idea and code a better verision since
I'm a lusy and unexperiernced coder (this will be my third game,
and first one to use a lib :oops: :lol: )
Right now I'm working on the relliib verision so I wíll probably leave
the sound card unemployed... (I have never used soundcard in QB)

Count me in for this one. Ive started my entry already, but it wont be finished till after my exams (just over a week now ;-)).
Heh, our midterms just ended. I almost totally bombed one of them (stupid Management class) coz I still dunno Spanish and the tests are all in Spanish.
red_Marvin, if you don't feel comfortable with it don't post the code. Do it later, like few days before the deadline when nobody will have time to copy your idea, though I doubt someone actually will do that. I mean, we all know each other and steling someone's idea during this short contest would be so obvius and probably resulted in antagonism toward that entire.

Challenge lasts until 22nd of this month. But since 22nd is Saturday when I can't access the internet I will be accepting the entries until Monday morning(24th) which gives you one more extra weekend to wrap it all up. All entries submitted before Monday morning then will be accepted. I'll need few days to collect the entries, check them, and construct a nice poll. I also plan to make a webpage for the challenge, where all the entries with the screenshots and info will be stored, together with the challenge results. I hate when some challenge ends and in few months nothing is left of it. Like it never exsisted.

I'll point out once more that the deadline might be prolonged for few days if I get enough requests for such action. Like if somone made 2/3 of his entrie and needs just a day or two to wrap it up. If you find yourself in a sitation where you'll have no chance to finish your entrie before the deadline don't hesistate to finish it anyway. I'll have a section for disqualified entries on the webpage I mentioned. It would be shame that your work is left unfinished just cause you won't have a chance to win the award.

Few more points I forgot to mention:
You are allowed to make more keys available to the player as long
as all of them have the SAME function. I mean you don't have to restrict yourself on giving the user an option of playing with specifically THAT key. I mean he can have a choice to play with SPACE, ENTER, SHIFT or whatever key, as long as all those keys have the same function. Or you can add the controlls setup option. That would probably be the best.
Also, all entries must be done in QBasic(any version). I asume all of you knew that since this is a challenge in a QBasic forum. Nevertheless to avoid misunderstandings I'm pointing that out.
Ok, I think the answer is no, but it's worth checking...
You said that we could have additional keys for menues. Would that include in-game menus (e.g. for a store type thing)?
