I know this post is coming from the guy who wanted the qbasic.com thread shut, but...

We all are aware, as webmasters, of the stranglehold that qbasic.com exerts over the community. People visiting find a nice site, but one unfortunately that is abandoned, giving the impression that the qbasic community is a dead and buried one.

We all know this is not true, but no site is able to knock qbasic.com off the top spot. So I feel we have to all work together to somehow remove it from it's place and replace it with another site.

I'm working on one angle of that, but I need your help with the other part. Google ranks pages largely by how many other sites link to it. So what we all need to do as webmasters is remove every and all links to qbasic.com on our sites. Feel free to replace them with a non-linking version (just plain text instead of an anchor), but if we all stop linking to it, in the future its ranking will begin an inevitable slide to below some of the better sites out there, like qbasicnews, kentauri, qbnz and the like.

Why should you do this? It's in your interest to do it, because by forsaking qbasic.com now, all the current webmaster's site will increase in rank, leading to more hits for you. And since qbasicnews is currently the best bet for a site to push into number 1 in front of qbasic.com, if you are a member here with your link in your profile, the inevitable upswing in visitors here will flow straight on into your sites.

If you're interested in helping, simply remove the qbasic.com links from your site. I know this may seem like we're forsaking a good resource, but remember, it's a dead resource, and it's helping nobody here.
Or we could just link to the message board. That's the most important part of it....
Or the reverse happens and everyone forgets qbasic ever existed.
I dont see anything wrong with qbasic.com, sure most of the material is old, but heh, its got very little down time :p
People won't forget that qbasic ever existed. See, that's the mentality of someone who never looked past the first page for results of QBasic. Tongue

If qbasic.com falls, another site will take its place. Like qbnews. And *that* will be a good thing.

Aga: good idea, what's the url? But I won't be doing that...
The real question is, how is qbasic.com being funded? I don't think Mallard would have paid for like 10 years of hosting and then just take off like that. So who is paying for the ongoing renewal of the domain? Find them and you shall have your wish.
Did you try snail mail? The address listed for the domain is a residential address, and it does exist...

If it's really THAT big a deal, hell, I could drive to the guy's house. It's only about an hour away from my home.
You obviously haven't read the "qbasic.com has had its.." thread. Besides, don't you think the fax number looks a little bogus? That calls into question the rest of the information about the domain name...
Sorry I don't have photographic memory. Tongue That's why it was a question, not a statement.

The registrant does not have a fax number listed, only the registrar does. Yes, it's bogus, but you're not trying to contact the registrar.

edit:
Well, I dug up the old thread, and nowhere do I see anything about a snail mail attempt. It also looks like you sent the emails to the *registrar*, which would explain why nobody responded...
Oooh, plasma may be on to something here...

Could you pls post the registrant's details, or how I can get them?
All that's available is the home address. Mapquest shows it's on a residential street.
