Is there a way that I can establish a background that stays even when I CLS?
you have to do your work in one screen and show it in another periodically..

oldskool, no libs, no poke/peek

SCREEN 7,,0,1
blablabla

update:
PCOPY 0,1
What screen mode are you using?
Withdrawn.
What? Did I miss something here? Terry never said he was using screen 7....Ag's post doesn't really answer the question either.

(Which, by the way, is no. You can, however, copy the background over from a hidden buffer instead of using CLS, which is in effect what you are trying to do.)
Aw, nuts. I wrote that at 3am, and I thought he was talkiing to aga. sorry.

Look, uh, qb's standard graphical routines really are crap, hence why 99% of libraries are graphical ones. If you want to restore a background when you clear the screen, you're either going to have to get the background and reput it on the screen or use some funky alternative like pcopy in an ega mode.
terry tell us what you are trying to do? which screen mode ur using? and such stuff.
SETVIDEOSEG

I love it when I get the chance to to this. ;*)
Rel, just put "The answer to all problems is SetVideoSeg" in your signature.... in a crazy image so it stands out.
That would remind me of Rule 1... so make the image of a bald, wrinkly, smiling old monk (sweeper) :rotfl:
