When I click on a ftp link (starts ftp:// or something)
it gives the standard 404 error page. I think this is
specially a window$ xp problem (or possibly IE6)
do anyone know whats the problem/solution whatever? Cry
do you use dial up? xp has a built in firewall for it that intereferes with some programs using ftp properly. Disable the winxp firewall and try again. It should not effect ie though.... Maybe your links are all dead?
i use ws_ftp. works fine, where ftp:// in internet explorer doesnt for me.
i've used xp since it was whistler and i havent had a problem with ftp:// ..only a few times it'll f*ck up, but it's windows, what do you expect? Tongue
Good point, Rhiannon! Big Grin But even if it's XP, I expect
it to work at least a 1/100, but no.

I have XP home, A lot of service packs, MSIE 6.0.blah,
Norton internet security and ADSL

Does these things matter?
Disable NIS when you use FTP.
What is and where do I do that?

EDIT 5 seconds later: Do you mean Norton Internet Security?
EDIT 1 minute later: If you did mean "deactivate auto protect"
then it didn't work :'(
Hmm have you tried using an application to do it other than IE? like http://filezilla.sourceforge.net or ws_ftp or anything?
Yeah, IE really sucks at FTP. Try smart ftp or something. I havent tried it out yet =)
SmartFTP has been bastardized...it used to be clean and free, now it's got annoying nags.
