I recently changed my motherboard to an asus with nForce2. It has onboard LAN. So i didn't put in my old network card. Anyways, when i tried to run a game which used EMS it wouldn't run saying there were 0 bytes of EMS available. After lots of messing, it finally worked when i disabled the on board LAN in the bios setup. So try disabling the onboard lan or taking out the network card. It will probably work after that.
I heard that, and disabling "legacy usb support" sometimes works as well.

my only prob's that I only have one PCI slot, and it's being used. I actually *use* my computer's on-board lan.
I too have an nforce2...I tried disabling every onboard device, and also removing my RAID card. Still can't get EMS to work.
:normal: - I guess I dont know. I have XP and most EMS applications worked after I tinkered with _default.pif if c:\windows. I didnt even have to add EMM=RAM to config.nt, but I did that anyway because of an unusually wierd-acting program.
Some newer motherboards have no clue how to set up a pageframe. If this is the case...you may not be able to get EMS to work no matter what you do.

why would there be a confilc to cause this issue.
ROM from onboard devices takes up too much room in the upper memory area for a continuous 64K page frame.
well i guess them people weren't think about qbasic. why dont they use the RAM
Diroga, I *highly* doubt that the makers of the new technologies give a rat or even a dead rat about QB. The money is no longer in DOS. The money is in Windows. They go where the money is. And rightfully so too...if you don't make money, you don't stay in business.

Has anybody thought of taking a project like Dosemu and porting it to Windows NT and using that instead of the native DOS emulation. Because the source code is available it could be tested against various QB projects and bugs fixed where found. Users wouldn't need to worry about EMS/XMS memory either because it could all be emulated in software.

Just a thought.
