I'm looking into making a pseudo-3d adventure game with graphics similar to Myst or Cyberia. Has anyone ever done this before? Thanks.
I know that syn9 was doing this a while ago. He had a small demo too.
i am working on a 3D thing right now.....i would be glad to help you out with code and what not

Alex
I think you misunterstood me Alex. The game I'm looking at making is not real 3D. It uses pre-rendered graphics from a program like Anim8or (one sweet modeller and animation program). The background is displayed first, and then the moving graphics are progressivley layed overtop of it. Check out games like Myst, Cyberia (1 or 2), or Lost Eden.
There's Ghini Run (on Qbasic New Zealand's Action games page), a highly acclaimed car racing game. Been a while since I looked at it, but I think it was only psuedo-3D.
My myst-like, think point and click. click on a door to go through that door. scene flips to what's past that door. etc. They were real big in the cd-rom's early days.
Yeah, Lost Eden was quite impressive when it was released. It feature full screen 3D cinematics (pre-rendered, of course). But it was just a point and click graphic adventure, nothing really hard to code. They just had a ton of 3D Studio artists who did the GFX and animations. This game was really beautiful.

Yeah it was. All the graphics were pre-rendered and everything, and Piptol designed the game based on what he figured out about racing games rather than actual standards. Probably would have been more realistic to follow standard racing game design, but Ghini Run owns anyways. [Image: icon_respect.gif]
It's an outrun clone. There's no realism required Wink
ooh, one of my favorite types of these games is called shivers. it's you're basic myst look-alike, having to solve puzzles, pick up items, but there was alot more to it.
