Please, don't vote for my game. It's has no any challenge and replay value at all. What were these 6 people thinking.

Vote for Free Fall, now!

The object code should work in virtually any MSDOS compiler. I'll release the sourcecode tomorrow when I actually have access to my dev system as well as the time to release it (right now I'm at college, and today we are going to Mayaguez, so no time unfortunately)
Tanks was definitely the best entry. It has nice "think-quick" puzzle element in it...

I managed to finish both easy and tough levels, but the impossible one is rather challenging. Though it could be better if it had designed levels, but it's still the best of these. Reminds me from NES's Lolo series... ahh, sweet memories...
awsoma Big Grin thanks pieslice

I was going to keep up the anonymous voting thing, but I guess the thread isn't. Mine went to falling starz for it's old-school arcade look and feel. There was more challenge as it progressed as well, and the moving stars in the background did make up for only 2 colors.

Fundee had awesome graphics, but was simple in concept. Boat was tough for me, since it follows the laws of physics and whatnot (those blasted rocks! and moving logs!) Red Ball was tough to see on 640x480 (my comp couldn't use 320x240), but reminded me of the game Egger (great)
Great games you guys have made, I congrats you all!

I voted for Ryans entry Red Jumpy Ball. The reason is that I think it has the greatest replay value and the one-key-feature is really used to it's maximum. Lachie's game The Man Who Had A Boat is the most game that doesn't look like a compo-demo and it's also the best gfx and it's funny to play. Fundee was the most funny (the most houmoristic)
I put Free Fall down, but the boatman game was really close.

The only big problem with Free Fall is how you control it.
I originally had the controls like the Man who had a Boat, but since that entry was both similar to and better than mine in most respects, I had to change something. Hence, the turning.

Lachie:
I'm working on a new and improved version (won't count for this competition, obviously), and expect to finish it sometime after my computer stops crashing ever other second ( :x ). The levels will be more defined, and the game will be more beatable. Be patient.
OK...here y'all go, anyone who wants it:

http://www.nodtveidt.net/fundee-source.zip

It contains a small textfile with info on how I did Fundee's state machines and a brief thigo on XMS usage. The code is pretty easy to understand with the XMS usage so I didn't go into any details there.

Well...hope this helps someone out there. Smile

Btw...you can use LIB.EXE to extract the xms.obj inside the library.lib file. The obj should work fine linked into a lib built for 7.1 or even vbdos.
My brain's reviews on the matter (don't kill the messenger!)
Games in alphabetical order.

*Man Who Had a Boat
nice graphics
cool gameplay
same-level respawn feature: awesome!
moving objects!
jungle, swamp, space! awesome!

*Cannons
Nice graphics Smile)
Gameplay idea is sound. Ball location feature is a good idea. Fun, once speed is set.
-speed is not automatically set.
-bouncing arrow, gameplay, was confusing at start > no instructions at the main page. (even though instructions in readme)
-(minor) space/enter at main screen work randomly when moving around in menus (options space/menu stuff OK)

*Free Fall
nice idea
nice graphic, although
-more would have helped Smile
-So it doesn't end, eh? Losing quits the game! Sad Well, infinite levels, so....

*Falling Stars
good idea
graphics are great (for monochrome)
Monochrome is OK but:
-blinking!

*Fundee
EXTREMELY unique idea!
Good that there is no sound...
Awesome stickfigure/tomato/hand/background gfx!
-Third level doesn't play properly Sad
---stickfigures are WAY too rude Sad

*rjb
Graphics are good.
Game has potential on lo-speed computers.
----refresh rate and playing speed seems uncontrolled or too high (same as Cannons except now can't even change it).
-no in-game instructions Sad

*Tanks
Good overall idea.
Arrows/rocks/fuel: good ideas for gameplay.
Graphics are OK, but
-tanks look more like bugs at first, was hard to tell where the front is.
-Menu is awkward. (menu selection is slow, color choice is too dark, menu blinks sometimes) At first didn't notice the speed control, which made it difficult to play.
-Speed is still too fast even at lowest level Sad

Ok!

Here are the games again, most fun to not as much fun, IMHO:

Man Who Had a Boat
Cannons
Fundee
Tanks
Free Fall
Falling Stars
rjb
You know, I completely agree with Aga on this one. Winner IMO, The Man Who Had A Boat, although as Lachie doesn't want his game to win, it would have to be Cannons. Well done Red Marvin! Big Grin
