I hope you enjoy it. Smile !

Out of my rather own mercy that Almighty God has given to me on purpose (because He already approved of me for who I am, really, and I am *NOT* against that at all! ;*) !! ), I decided that I will return to the QBasicNews.com forums after all. Big Grin !!

While I will be more serious and on-fire to give than ever, I will also be MORE respectful than ever, too. Thank you all so much and God bless us all and you, everyone!! Wink Wink !

P.S. By the way, I *AM* back in action indeed!!! Let’s pump up the positivity like it has never even been pumped up before!!! Big Grin !!
Make up your mind, will you?
umm... welcome back? :-? I guess i won't miss the flowery posts after all. :???: :???: :???:
You can show more respect by giving proper instructions on how to run FJ, as opposed to telling me to unzip the files and click on FJ.exe. I have been on a computer for 6 years, and I believe I can at least get that far when faced with a compressed file.
eQuuskia, I don't think AAP even knows how to run it, considering it's not even his game.

Anyways, what OS are you using? I am assuming Windows XP. You likely have to manually enable EMS in the program properties, as I believe it uses EMS. I will try it out on my XP computer here and let you know if it works. Relsoft's an amazing coder, but sometimes...well...he goes a bit...far. Wink
hrm...well ok, nevermind...

What a surprise.

After toying around with several of the EXEs, enabling 8MB of EMS for each one, and trying every configuration I could think of, I have reached the conclusion that this game is unrunnable in Windows XP. I also noticed the existence of several PIFs which contained incorrect information, so I deleted them (considering altering program properties creates new PIFs anyways, this was a safe move).

I will try this game in Windows 98SE later today, but I have a feeling that in Windows XP, you're out of luck. Unless someone can actually provide some *useful* information here (the manual does not, and I had to sift through several text files of garbage just to find the correct file anyways...and the PM AAP sent you was a *blatant* slap in the face, any __MORON__ could provide such details...sheesh you may be a woman, but you know more than most of the coders I know), I am declaring this game unplayable, and recommend that your review reflects this status, as you can't get it to run either.
Not to diss AAP, I find him a very nice guy, but I asked the same question about FJ not working to AAP by PM, and got *Exactly* the same reply. It wont work for me either, and Im on XP.
I have to admit that the PM was slightly patronising.
XP: unlucky for some!?
OK I got it to run in Windows 98SE, as expected (the DOS gamer's paradise OS! hahaha) and here's my little 60 second analysis:

The engine rocks. Relsoft's prowess in code shines through with all those sprites onscreen at once. Too bad it can't keep a consistent framerate just yet, but it's a demo version so I expect some flaws here and there.

The music sucks. Wow I've heard some bad music but this is just...ugh. Sad

The sound effects are nothing new, they're all from Games Factory anyways. Heard these hundreds of times before.

The graphics are ok, seen better seen worse. What bugs me is the fact that these same sprites have been overused way too many times.

But what really bothered me more than the music is the cheesey voice. GAH! What an earsore! Maybe it's just that these voices do match the music, but the music is bad in the first place, so...oh well. I think a real female voice would be better here, not a man trying to sound like a woman.

It was also difficult getting the game to start in 98SE though, so it's not like running FJ is anything trivial. I think the focus needs to shift away from the "demo project" mentality and more towards being an actual product...then it might be worthy. It's got an excellent engine...it just needs to have the rest of the components put into place properly.

And unfortunately...an engine isn't a game. If it was...FJ would be king of the hill by far. As it is, FJ is just another engine with bad resources. Way to go on the code, but...now please fill in the rest Big Grin

EDIT: And one more issue...PUT THINGS IN SUBDIRECTORIES!!!

Now I have a headache Cry
Sorry for making you sit through the auditory assault but I had to give FJ a fair shake Sad
