Happy Holidays for everyone! [Image: beerchug.gif]
Nathan, this time I disagree with you about the derivation of Xmas --- (muy rebuscado). It reminds me of statisticians, give them the answer and they'll give you the statistics to prove it.

Zack, I believe your theory is the closest to reality.

Anyway, Merry Christmas to all.

Sorry Moneo, but na_th_an's historical research is accurate. In addition, if you look at the stages of the cross, it is often depicted as an X. Unfortunately, Zack's post has no historical backing and little logical reasoning behind it. Although it is true that nowadays some people DO use Xmas to annoy Christians, the usage of Xmas dates back to the origins of the Dark Ages. Just as the Cross Of St Peter (the inverted cross) is now used to derogatorily represent Satanism (this is another whole ball of wax, and if anyone wants to discuss this on a rational, adult level, PM me), Xmas can be used as an attack on the holiday. However, it is inaccurate to use Xmas as an insult to Christians and their holiday, and anyone who uses it as an insult is simply insulting themselves with their bigotry and ignorance. Big Grin

Merry Christmas/Xmas everyone Big Grin
Guys...I'm not positive about what I said, but I *think* so, anyway.

Yeah, like Adosorken has said. For example, in Spain, you can see the word "Xto" instead of "Cristo" in many religious texts, writen by clerics themselves. As "Cristo" means "crucificado" I don't see anything wrong with it.

Zack: Yeah, it may be used by people to insult christians, but... Not anyone who wants to insult will insult, but the one who's able.
I didn't say insult. I said it was disrespectful to the religion of the non-Christian.
It's actually considered...uncomfortable...to say "Christ" in my religion.
Well, I understand you. But well, any person has his/her own beliefs, it is up to us to live with that and learn to be good friends no matter which our religion is Smile

Happy Chanukah, Zack ! Smile
That's the spirit, nath!
Happy Chanukah to you. Smile
