Whenever I talk to some of my friends through webcam... it runs extremely jerky and they appear to be teleporting around the screen. I myself know that my computer is capable of doing them much faster, but anyway. What part of the PC has an affect on it? Is it the speed of the connection? Or the speed of the computer?
It is usually the connection speed. Get yourself a T3 line and you'll be running as smooth as the camera can operate. The frame rate on webcams is adapted to the connections speed. A lower connection rate, the lower the frame rate, which in turn makes the video feed all jerky cos you're only getting a few fps. Faster computers will make a difference, but only up to a point. the main problem is transferring the frames fast enough.
It will also depend on the connection speed of the person you are talking to. If their connection is slower than yours then you will be limited to how fast they can send and receive data.

The software you are using may have options to lower the resolution or quality in exchange for less jerkiness.
Bah, T3. If both parties have at least 128 kbit up/down you should be fine. From my experience, 90% of the problem is with crappy software. I've tried loads of webcam software, and the best I've found so far (in terms of picture quality) is MSN Messenger.
Um, don't think you're right, there, Dark - on my 2.4 GHZ computer using Windows Movie Maker for XP, my webcam runs quite slowly, compared.
#1. I will never be able to afford T3 as of now.... ever.

#2. MSN Messenger is the only other webcam software I've heard of besides Yahoo...

#3. I'm running past 128, but I'm not sure if others are...

....oh well. Teleportation conversations for me...

Huh? I said that the computer speed affects the webcam only to a low point. Ie. computer speed can affect the webcam, but only if your computers is *damn* slow. I mean like a p100. That can slow it down, if the computer is recieving images faster than it can process them.

Heh heh. Who can? (it was supposed to be a joke)
Never mind.
I still wonder how I can afford dual OC-12's. Big Grin
Whats that? Does it run at 10GBit/s speed or something?
