Quote:what exactly are you doing that warrents 20gbs of bw a month? That's a lot of bw. :???:
I'm hosting Harsoft, and I forsee hosting a few others in the future.
Ah I see. That makes more sense.
What I would do, is instead of spending that money on hosting, spend it on a better connection, and host it yourself. I can do whatever I want now, with no pop-up ads, and if I get banners, they'll be completely voluntary...

If I'm not mistaken, I offered you free hosting with exactly what you wanted a while back, and you turned it down...
But you still have to buy the domain, now dont you?

Domain? Pffft...

Unless I go commercial anytime soon, cjb.net will do just fine.
Domains are CHEAP. As in inexpensive.

It's not the same thing hosting on a home computer with a dsl connection, than hosting on multiple OC-12s in a datacenter. Youre not going to get that from your ISP at $5-10 a month. Even if you were able to get, say, an mbit for $40 a month, youre still spending more than just getting hosting.
Not everyone needs OC-12's heh. Rockuman is probably more then happy with his current set up so that's fine. He's not exactly running a massive site that needs tons of bandwidth anyway. The same goes for most people who decide to host their sites out of their home I find. The people who actually run the big sites that needs a bit more bandwidth are the people who really need to think about paid hosting.
I'm simply referring to the quality of the connection. A Tier 1 connection is sturdier than what an ISP can offer, but if all you need is an mbit or 1/2 an mbit, then yea, no need to really go out for hosting. But with hosting as cheap as it is in some places, you might be better off than hosting it yourself, considering you have to leave your computer on all the time (electric bill) and other connectvity issues.
