Man, for that image you need 3D Studio, Photoshop, lots of plugins, and 10 years of training.

Well.... how about my image be just 1/3 as good as that? How about then?
Then Photoshop, 3D Studio and lots of plugins Big Grin

Seriously, man, no free software can beat the commercial graphics programs currently.

An linux phreaks, don't say "Gimp" even compares to Photoshop. 'cause it doesn't Wink.

Seriously, you could try GIMP. It may not stand up to Photoshop but for a beginner its quite good =).
^^^^ methinks people slag gimp cos they don't know how to use it properly Wink Wink
if you want something to make something like that, you can use LView Pro ++. ask zack about it, its simplistic yet gives good results. you can download the trial version at lview.com i think.

I am not saying that Gimp is bad. You can create great stuff with it, but Photoshop is easier to use and is way more supported (more third party pluggins) and by all means faster and more powerful. But that's my opinion...

And I've tried Gimp for windows and it is far too unstable Sad
