Okay ive got two computers, one winxp home on win98. Ive got them hooked up beatifully with tcp/ip, ive even got shared internet and all working perfectly. The issue is i cant get IPX to work properyl at all. They both use the same frame (ive tried 802.2 and 802.3 and ethernet II) and use the the same network adress (0) but they dont work well. Ive tested with C&C tiberian sun and starcraft.

They two computers can see games created on each other under starcraft but neither can connect. I think the issue is nothing winxp sends out is getting to the 98 machine becuse under C&C i can chat in the lobby and win xp gets messages FROM 98, but cant send messages TO 98. Also when 98 creates games XP can see them, but when created with XP 98 cant see them. neither can connect.


Any ideas? Ive enabled/disabled netbios allowed guess acess, set 16 max connection, 32 max ports and have banged my head repeatedly. It just doesnt want to work.

Me and a friend of mine had the same problem...

It turned out that win xp uses a virtual network card for ipx as default (we think...)

Anyways, he changed the default card in te network settings of the games.



Also in SC you can choose the network protocoll, try UDP (SC v1.08b, i think)

yeah SC does work fine in UDP mode(as does half life), im using it to test IPX however. I mentioned in the post all tcp/ip games worked fine. and setting the correct card in the game doesnt help. hmmmm.

Try looking around in winxp..

I'm on 98, and my friend uses XP,we got ipx to work, after several hours of looking around in regisrty settings, and network settings.

I don't remember where we found it though, it was on the XP machine, something about "Emulate IPX card" or "Enable virtual IPX card".

Something like that
