Quote:silent death: could you describe the sound? please post a detailed configuration of your computer.

HP: POS, sounds like it's dying.

Diagnostic: HP went thru the tubes after they merged with Compaq. It's now a case of who can build the shyttest computers.

Recommendations:
1) hold out till you can get a totally new built-by-yourself computer;
2) see what parts are salvagable, and buy new parts to build a new computer if youre on a budget, which i'm sure you are;
3) Open the thing and see what's inside. Make sure HP didnt do something stupid like put in a cheap motherboard and the heat sink unglued itself from the chipset and is now sitting on the vid card.

Good luck.
Quote:Not unless you use slugs. Buckshot wouldn't easily penetrate the case, unless it was plastic. Personally, I'd use either some kind of rifle, or make a step up to a semi-automatic handgun. However, nothing beats a good old MAC-10.

i don't know... 12 gauge and less should get through. i think you may underestimate the the power of a flying pellet, much less a whole shell full. A pellet from a shotgun is alot more intense than a pellet from a bb gun. Not saying you use a bb gun, Adosorken. Tongue

i'd rather use a 22. sure, it may be skimpy on power, but considering i know a guy who'd lend me a semi-automatic 22 with clips that can hold +20 bullets, it evens out in the end.
you hate your comp? I'd be happy to have it. Big Grin

Barok, if you got a shotgun wait a few months and then come to my house and we'll "Test" it on my comp :wink: .

Rel, ...if were doing the "Test" then I don't think you'll be to happy about getting it after...
why not trade it in? i'm sure you could get something for it... however, me and my shotgun are waiting. Big Grin we'll hand in our results as a science fair projects: guns and computers: how bullet proof are computers?

do you want my PI 166MHz 64MB RAM and some VIA Mobo? It works like a dream =) - and I am not kidding. It is the most reliable and stable system. But *you* will have to pay for the shipping =P.
i wouldn't mind something like that! it sounds kinda like my ol' pI 120 mhz 32 mb ram: fairly stable, but slow. i wouldn't mind trying to overclock it, except i'm scared i'd destroy it.

or were you directing that at relsoft? he asked first, he gets first dibs. but i get seconds! i suppose shipping would be a fortune though...
HP/Compaq makes their computers cheap..

They don't make them for reliability.

Of course you could always "make" a few heat vents..
I have a bunch of warped pentium motherboards that you can shoot at.

Alot of this crap happens all the time. I know quite a few friends who got some new stuff where it's first breath was it's last.

I'm surprised my pc hasn't died yet. It's scared me a few times, but I've been able to recover it.

It's funny how my old 386 and 486 are still working great.

Maybe they are trying to scam us into buying their replacement plan, or something.
bah... it's the same as before. they used to make things for reliability, such as t.v.'s, and now they build things that last a few years. why? it'd be bad for a company if everyone bought t.v.'s within a few years radius and then never bought a new one for 10-20 years because the old one still works. it still kills me how a hitachi t.v. we have has been around for about 20 years. not too long ago we bought a larger hitachi t.v. because we thought they were reliable: the newer one broke down only about four years after we got it. cost us alot to get it fixed. i assume it's the same for computers.
