I'm trying to draw an RPG-size 16x16 kinda cartoonish character, standing straight and looking right at you. I can't seem to get the nose. I've tried a shape somewhat like this:
Code:
O
O O
O
But that doesn't look right. I can't exactly do a proper nose, because this is a pretty small (16x16, as I said) area I'm working with.
Any tips?
Just leave the nose off.
I'd suggest you to look at other sprites of the same size of well known games. Observing is the best way to learn for the pixeler.

16x16 is too small. Probably you don't need to draw a nose in a side view of a sprite of that size.

I've been looking for old console games with 16x16 sprites, here you are some examples:

OK, everything seems to jive here. Smile No nose for something that small.
(Btw this particular sprite is not side-view, but rather looking *at* you, i.e. the move-down-the-map sprite)
Aw silly me, I read "right" and nothing else and understood "facing right" lol

Anyhow in the games I've examined to show you those examples (except Super Mario Bros) no nose was there on front views, trust me Big Grin
OK, I've come up with three frames for each four directions. I'll post the palette and the pp256-requiring file soon...
