Quote:ANYWAYS... While most popular cartoons are distorted, you'll notice that most of the artists can draw very accurately before they draw stylishly. I've seen cartoons that look nothing realistic, but occasionally show off their art talent by throwing in a very well drawn picture or portrait. It happens all the time.

Anyways... don't mind Nin, he's slowing becoming an curmugdeon Smile Show us the next drawing so we can see how it's coming!
First I have to find my pencil.

i cannot stand when that happens. thats why my pocket is filled with 40 some odd pencils all the time. once you really get into drawing, you'l carry pencils like they were house keys
I was using a 3HB nicely toned stick, and now I lost it...
you were using a 3HB? wow, i always use 1HB, sometimes 2HB. what brand of pencil do you use anyway? i know alot of people like ticonderoga, but my personal favorite is Prisma. they just give the soft, undertoned look with very accurate detail.
Whenever I draw, I use Prisma pencils. But a large box is quite expensive if you're buying Prismacolors (which is what I like to draw with). I can remember spending well over $100 on a box of 130-something a few years ago...

Btw Zack...the pic looks like Osama bin-Laden. Big Grin
Bah... I've never liked drawing pencils. They're nice and all, but it's not like you can't make a good drawing with a plain number two. Hell, I use mechanical for most of my doodles.

Mech1301: Watterson's my favorite cartoon artist too. I *love* Calvin and Hobbes Smile He was actually who I had in mind when I said that most cartoonists learn to draw accurately before they learn to draw stylishly.
Mechanical pencils are teh suxxor for sketching. Tongue
i actually use a standard 2HB Eagle USA pencil (the standard of the standards for pencils) for a starting sketch, they go on nice and light and erase real easy. then i move on to the prismas, which smudge instead of erase (the smudge makes for a great effect).
I do a lot of drawing... unfortuanatly the scanner isn't connected so I can't show it ( =P ). right now, I am doing a few drawings of viehicles for a game I might make (3d), and I am making them doing cool things, and look very old and dented, with evil looks to them as well.

The smudging from my hand does add effect, and if I want something to be super shiny, I will take a very small earaser and go over the part. if I do say so myself, I am doing well at shading for my age.

usualy, I just use whatever pencil is nearest (for example, when I feel my teacher has been yabbering too long [and I am on the verge of sleeping], I take my pencil and earaser, and get back to work on it Smile ) of course, with that I have to be carefull! My teacher caught me once, and trust me, it was not pretty    :barf: :barf: :barf:
my favorite 'unique' art supplies for drawing are:

Q-tips
tissue
lighter
finger tip
pocket lint
