Hi there,
Just thought I'd say hello since I just joined, tell you about my current projects and all that rubbish. I've been programming for about 4 years, in that time I've built up a strong knowledge of the basic language. Altogether I have used 6 different basic languages, YaBasic,DarkBasic,BlitzBasic,VisualBasic,Basic4gl and now QBasic along with learning C++ in my spare time. I started using QBasic mainly because next year I will be doing electronics and my school uses QBasic for one of the modules, so I thought I'd get a head start and do some coding in QB before I go back. Recently I have been reading and looking into compiler design and creating interpreters to create a small language. I decided to use QB to start to actually code this project for two reasons, I wanted to grasp QB and I thought starting in a BASIC language would allow me to grasp the concepts of compiler design. This project has been going on around 5 days and I already have a nice Virtual machine which currently can create simple number games such as guess the number, I have a compiled version of guess the number, but I doubt you want to see that  .

Anyway nice to be here, looks like a nice enough community Wink

cheers

Jonny

cheap try to increase the no.of languages you know(j/k) =P. Welcome to the QBN forums!

wt: nice try =P
some bad news fella... turns out BlitzBasic and BlitzBasic are the same thing. hate to be the first to tell ya......

steer VERY clear of QB. it is great for starting wiht, but once you understand it enough to understand how C/C++ work, then FOR THE LOVE OF GOD SWITCH. Smile because C/C++ are actually still used by major corporations, whereas QB has been legally dead for over 10 years.

and no, many people here are jerks. not to me, since im great. but ive seen some people treat others like jerks.
I'm a jerk.

I've always said that coding in a language doesn't mean abandoning the others. People who "leave QB to code in C++" are stoopeed. You can code in many languages, you can still stop and do a lil bit in QB. QB is fun. Always.

nooo that was meant to be basic4gl, better edit that little mistake

Thats why I'm using QBasic. Also there is nothing wrong with doing a bit of basic coding now and then, I hate C++ coders who think they are elite and all other languages are a waste of time.(not saying you are one btw) 8)

cheers for the replies,

Jonny
I'm a C++ coder, and I don't think I'm elite. Other languages (like QB) are needed for a good basis Smile
Yeh what I meant is some people who use better 'industry quality' languages like C++ think that no other language is needed and that everything can be done better in C++, that just really gets on my nerves, it was not a general statement to all C++ coders. Smile anyway, changing the subject before I get stoned to death by all the C++ coders on the forum, nice weather today eh?
