Tomorrow marks 20 years...20 years of my sorry ass sitting behind a keyboard, coding whatever deranged things I felt like coding. Yet I can still remember it like it was yesterday. How time flies, huh? Big Grin Anyways, how long has everyone here been a programmer? Do you have any regrets about it? What's your greatest programming accomplishment? Inquiring old people wanna know. Big Grin
how long been a programmer: Started at eight, 13 at the mo so 5 years
Any Regrets : At one point that was when i was depressed and i had to start sleeping cus of these drugs so no later night programming, so basically from january of this month to august i regretted it
Greatest programming acomplishment: FTP Program written in qbasic
Started programming at age of 5 or 6 cant remember... 16 now so thats 11 years... wow

I didnt program much in the beginning tho, just occasionally in the weekends, later I learned vb, and then more stuff.

Greatest accomplishment? What I remember being very proud of was a tile by tile walking no scrolling game, cuz at that time I didnt know about the qbnet, so i had learned by my self. Oh, before that I did a textmode-sorta-pacman clone (again without net-help), it actually turned out as a finished game, which we played in school (3rd grade I think, age 9). And I did a multiple-tile-in-on-file library at that time too, which also made me proud, heh.

My greatest fun these later years has been with php tho. And now with java, and java for mobiles, which is great fun.

Regrets? hmm no... I regret only when I buy a game and spend hours playing it, and therefore dont program.
I started programming at 19 at the university , back in 1977. I had a CS semester, they taught me numerical methods in Fortran 66.
The engineering building (where I was) did'nt had a computer then, so a janitor picked everyday our punched cards, put them in a trolley and pushed it towards the main building where THE COMPUTER was (Multivac? Big Grin), then brought back the listings with the results of our previous day programs. Rainy days delayed the process a bit: Batch processing they called it. The day my CS semester ended, enginering building received a brand new computer. The janitor was reassigned to other duties...

Then came the Sinclair Spectrum (1982), basic and everything else...
So it 's 27 years....Not so many as Moneo, I think!
Started at 10.. I'm almost fifteen so I'm heading for my 5th year Smile
hmm I'd say about 3rd grade... .that was about 4.5 years ago. hmm about 8 or 9.

regrets: None
greatest programming accomplishment: None yet

=D
Well I started when I was like 10, but got online at 12. I'm 18 now. I leave the train station one direction going 100 miles per hour. If I need to stop for gas twice, what time will I reach Saint Louis?
Quote:what time will I reach Saint Louis?

How should I know. You just left it. =P

@Zap: 5 or 6? woah. that's cool. Thats when I was playing dos games.
I started at 6 or 7. Regrets? Considering I've left programming and run off to play with engines instead, I'd say that it isn't really a very good life-long hobby. Oh, and for a while there I really was quite the nerd. So that's a regret.
started at 6, this is my 11the year . . . wow

accomplishments -- none
regrets -- wasting my childhood.

if i could go back to the past, i'd tell the child-me to quit playing games and go play some sports instead. being a nerd sucks.
