i got the content of several cds on my hard drive that would normally run when the cd was put in. I did this because my cd rom is broken. Is there a program around that, when accessing a folder that contains the contents of a cd, act as if the autorun was activated?
No that I know, but you could use Daemon Tools. It installs a ISO file as a virtual CDROM. It supports most of ISO formats (CUE/BIN, NRG, and almost anything out there) and it's free...

Now that your CDROM is broken it's obvious that you can't make images of your CDROMs, but you can still download WinIso and create working ISOs of each CDROM, just adding all the files of each folder in your hdd. Then, when you have the ISO file, you can load it into Daemon Tools and your PC will believe that a new CDROM drive is present with that CDROM (the ISO you created) inside.
or you could use VCD, essentially a stripped down version of a virtual CD mounter, although only works for XP. Made by microsoft. I use it, and it works great.

instead of going through all that fuss you can just have a look at the SUBST command =). The command basically tells windows to point a drives I/O to a folder. For example if you substitute your cdrom drive for a folder, say, c:\temp\ then all the I/O you perform on the cdrom drive will be done on that folder. Windows will believe that the folder *is* the cdrom drive Big Grin
my cd rom is the d: drive. i tried that, but it wouldn't work. then i tried z: in place of d: and it worked perfectly. I cannot use drive names that are already token... but thanks anyways tbbq.
No problem dude! But its funny, Windows ME allowed me to use A:, my CDRW letter and DVDROM letter with the SUBST command =).
