36 TRILLION CALCULATIONS PER SECOND!!!
previus record is 35.86 or sumthin at Japanese NEC.
I think the japanese are already working on a much faster one.
they're always working on something.

america = japan + 1/2 step

japan = japan + 1 step
It's not really the same. It's just a big cluster computer from old PCs, while Japan's actually has a specialized architecture. They can do different things.
The IBM Blue gene has 16,500 processors at the moment, but IBM is going to upgrade it to over 100,000 processors. so w/e the japanese are working on blue gene will most likely be faster than that one too when IBM is done with it.
So when are we going to see carbide-based chips instead of silicon? Man it would make em very fast since it resistant to heat so no, liquid N needed. :*)
Seeing as the first computer was made and kept secret for 30 years, i'd say right about now Big Grin

matt
rel: carbide? i think its carbon nano tubes

jofers: a big cluster has a lot of drawbacks, but seeing as they have managed to pull it off, even by a little margin is a great achievement.

Not tubes but chips. You never heard of it? Carbide is technically carbon. :*)
Rel: They're always talking crap about having some replacement for silicon out in a few years. They were saying 10 years ago we'd have DNA computers in our homes by now, and quantum computers in space or whatnot. I think they made a process for making the damned material a little over a month ago, so we should be seing carbide computers somewhere in year 2184, after I'm long and dead.

Or will I be dead? Hahahaha...
