Is there any programs out there that will record what the computer is outputing to the speakers without using a mic? Basically what i think it'd do is read what is being output to the speakers and record that data instead of having a mic record sound. Thanks.

Yeah, what i want it for is to re-record a music format that i can't seem to save as a different type. The format is called minipsf, and i had to find a plugin in order to play that format on winamp. I'd like to save it as mp3 so i could burn the songs i really like to a cd, and winamp can't resave music as a different format it seems. or can it? I'm a noob when it come to winamp. Wink

Any and all help is appreciated. Smile
WinAmp has output plugins for that.
Most modern soundcards worth their salt allow you to change the input type, and you can usually set it to wave. I know you can do it with the CT4760 series (for the uninitiated, this is the SB Live! series) and all Creative cards after it.

I think you mean the output type.

No, he means input type.

E.g. I have a Creative SB Live! 5.1 soundcard, and I can select as input type for the microphone things like "What-U-Hear" and "Wave". That way, the sound played on the wave channel is also redirected to the microphone channel. So that, in fact, you can record what you hear (without placing a microphone in front of your speakers Wink).
XMPlay also has an option like that, and I prefer it's compactness over WinAmp (switched to it last week, and it's way better).

You could also plug your speakers into your microphone jack.
Using software is better than hardware for this operation, though, since computer input/output jacks tend to generate a lot of noise (depending on your soundcard also).
sound recorder can record wat the computer is outputing without any mics

Unfortunately my sound card is like my graphics card: integrated junk. Wink But i'll look it up though just in case i CAN do it.

I'll have to look for plugs that'll do that for winamp. Thanks for the help everyone!
