I'm just wondering what everyone's favourite piece of game music is. For me, they're from chrono cross and final fantasy tactics. Although I really like "Scar" from chrono cross, i like the music from final fantasy tactics better. The ending music from fft has to be my all time favourite though.
Yasunori Mitsuda's "Knight Of Fire" from Xenogears (imo, the best RPG ever made, zero competition). I loved the track so much when I first heard it that I changed my tracking name to "Knight Of Fire". Big Grin From there, Nobuo Uematsu's "A One Winged Angel" "The Magic House" and "Dancing Mad", SNK's "Dear Fallen Angel" (unsure of the musician, will look it up later...for those who don't know, this was Krizalid's second battle soundtrack in King Of Fighters '99), and "Akrillic" from the game Plok (again, unsure of the musician). Of honorable mention are: the entire soundtrack of Magic Sword by Capcom (SNES version), the entire soundtrack of Earth Defense Force, Ken's theme from Street Fighter II (most any version as long as it resembles the original track), and Dirth's Theme from Neutopia I and II (similar tracks, the Neutopia II one was a bit more intense though...and again, unsure of the musician).
Balrog's stage (this is Vega in the U.S. and European versions) music is so nice. Great japanese interpretation of spanish folklorical music and one of the most beautiful melodies I've ever listened to.

Ever listened to the SID tunes in Turrican for the C64? Or the superb soundtrack in pure AY music for Speccy's Untouchables?

As for consoles, I really love those nice Fantasy Zone tunes. Long life Sega Mark III ! Smile

But I have to admit that my all time favourite is for something relatively new (1999): the great soundtrack in American McGee's Alice. Absolutely outstanding. That's what I call "creating athmosphere".
Either of the Halo series, and FZERO-X!! That had awesome music, anyone liked it as well?
the original tetris music. i heard a remix of it at a dance club once that had a stepehn hawking voice come in every once in a while and say "Lets play tetris mother f**ker". it was great Tongue
Any of the music from Homeworld, but espescially the vocalization of Adagio for Strings called Agnus Dei. Very mood setting piece.

And the main theme from CNC Generals. Smile

Anything from Simcity 3000. Some great cool Jazz stuff in there. And there was this one tune I heard in one of the Final Fantasy games that I swear was the slip jig Elizabeth Kelly's Delight. (I'm very much so an Irish trad head.)
Dream of the Shore from Another World

Chrono Cross. It is good. So. Good.
Oh sheesh, I cannot believe I forgot about Nobuo Uematsu's "Aria de Mezzo Caraterre". Another top-ranked song on my "list". Big Grin
Outrun (Arcade) -Magical Sound Shower & Splash wave.. awesome.
Frontier (Amiga) - theme tune was ace.. to bad the PC version was a sham
Ghouls & Ghosts (Amstrad CPC) - impressive for the machine more than anything
Zynaps (Amstrad CPC) - I would sometime load that for the tune along (me? sad?)
The following I liked cos they were just so perfect for the games:
Rocket Knight Adventures (Megadrive)- best boss music since Revenge of Shinobi
Commando (C64) - yeah!
Psycho Pigs UXB (C64) - frantic game tune used in Squealer TNT

Hmm that brings back too many memories of me as an SF noob getting crossed up by a flying claw-dive  Ken's original tune rocked though. I loved that stage Smile
