The TAC is an annual competition of programmers to create the best text adventure possible. The rules are minimal...the idea is to show your stuff the best way possible. Visit the website here:

http://tac04.nodtveidt.net/

And why am I posting this in the Challenges forum? To issue a challenge along with the compo! Your challenge is to beat both na_th_an and I in this compo, as we're both competing this year, as is previous TAC Champion, FRoG32 (Josiah Tobin). Big Grin

So stop by and register, and show the world what you got behind the fingers without having to rely on pretty graphics. This compo is only ONE MONTH LONG, so the longer you wait, the less chance you have of winning. :wtnod:
What counts as a "text adventure"? Specifically, do MUD-style games count?

*peace*

Meg
A text adventure is a game where the story is written out to you, and you play the game by giving commands in plain English (or Spanish, French, whatever, heh). Yeah, MUD style games would count...the game I'm writing is somewhat MUD-style...less of a walkthrough story and more of an RPG.
Any language allowed? I'm coding this in VB6.
I'm also using VB6. Any language allowed, as stated in the official rules of the compo.
Great. Parser finished. Heading to location manager Tongue

My engine is PARSER + LOCATION MANAGER + OBJECTS MANAGER.
You all! I wanna see more entrants to this compo RIGHT NOW!

C'mon, people, this is about writing a nice story and a game around it. It is the story what matters.

It's a text adventure and you still have 20 days to finish it. ¡take it!
Could you post links to the previous winners of the compo.
I've never coded a TAC before and would like to see what others have come up with first to get an idea.
All I can show you is last Frog32's entry:

I'll ask Nek to dig for some more.

Holy crap, I wouldn't give that old thing out as an example!
Anyway, I'm finished my entry (just going through testing phases), and at the risk of sounding egotistical, I think I have a pretty good chance.
I would be adding more in-game books, little details, etc, had I not reached the memory limit in qb with my utterly incomprehensible and convoluted code. :rotfl:
