My crappy 3d raycaster

PureQB. I'm waiting to see how it runs on a slower machine, but on mine I'm getting over 100fps.
800 mhz amd duron, 90-100, when near a wall shoots to 130+.

It looks... blocky.
FPS fluctuates, but the highest it's getting to is approx 320fps.
Maybe add a framelimiter of about 75fps? The turning and movement on my computer is hyperspeed. Smile

It's just a tech demo. I have an idea about how to make a Wolfenstein style engine as my final challenge in QB, but it'll have to wait.
You made one by accident? I can't make one on purpose! Cry
Don't worry. After the raycasting tutorial in the next issue of qbxl, you'll have the info needed to accidentally make a raycaster too.

It's not even real 3d. It's sort of pathetic.
Actually I know how to make one, it's just that I can't seem to get the motivation. And when I do try to code one, it usually ends up not working. :x
Hey SJ, i'm curious. Just how far north ARE you anyways?

Welcome to the club. This is usually how it goes. There's alot of easy mistakes one can make programming a raycaster. You just have to keep hacking at it until you eliminate all the small bugs until it works. When I code raycasters, I end up taking most of the time debugging it, or just start a new one from scratch which is pretty useless because I end up back where I was with a raycaster that doesn't work.

As for the motivation part, uh...I don't know how to answer that. I've always had a passion for raycasters that kept me going. But I know that once you get one working, you get hooked. Wink
Out of curiosity, what were you trying to make when you accidently made your raycaster?
