Wow, I know that monkey. That's Harry Harlow's famous experiments on maternity, in which he presented monkeys with two mothers, one wire puppet that fed the monkeys, and the other that was just a terry-cloth puppet and was simply present. The monkeys always turned to the soft "mother" when they were frightened, and that's what that picture is demonstrating.
