Ok - I managed to get X to work (see my other post), but I get no 3d rendering of any sort. No software rendering. nothing. I installed the new ati opengl drivers with emerge - they don't do squat.

My card is an ATI M9 (should work)

glxinfo:

Code:
Xlib:  extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".

I'm unsure if the modules were loaded when they were needed, although I could use modprobe without a hitch.

I followed the directions given online .. still no luck.
post your XF86Config-4 here. I think you're missing modules like DRI and GLX. Also, do you have framebuffer enabled in the kernel? If you're unsure then you better get on to #gentoo @ freenode.net and ask the Gentoo guys there. I dont use gentoo but these are the common errors in X's configuration.
Format hard drive. Install Windows XP. Problem solved. Big Grin
It's a dual boot.
I'll get that config file next time I boot into linux (ext2fst is complaining).
The main reason I'm using gentoo (Instead of an 'easier' to configure distribution) is because I have had no problem getting wireless to work with ndiswrapper. It didn't work in Fedora. SUSE crashed a ton but worked, and Gentoo just worked, no problems. The other two did work on 3d stuff, however.
OK - I did it Big Grin (with full HW acceleration!!!!). I had been using Xorg, not XFree86, so I renamed my config file to xorg.conf (after a tip at a site). It worked! I then configured the options to make the card work correctly. Tux racer is now running at full fps!
