Well, I FINALLY finished editing (editing=big pain) my something-between-a-novel-and-very-long-short-story (that's the professional term we use here in the business. yes, I have no idea what 'the business' is or, in fact, what I'm talking about), though I'm slightly unsure if I should post it, as if it was made publicly available online that would dent its chances of being printed/published in any form.
So, if you'd like to read it (approximately 90 novel-size pages... 45 standard print paper pages (8 and a half x 11)) then post here and let me know and I'll get it to you.

EDIT: Hmm, I guess I should explain what it's about, huh?
It's called 'In The Blink Of An Eye', and it follows the story of Samantha Willis, a young 'Neurorunner'-- That is, someone who can enter a person's mind and modify, extract, or implant thoughts and memories at will-- Basically, a kind of mental hacker.
While she has not been in the field very long, she already possesses formidable talent and skill, and a strange young man who calls himself 'Crasher' seems to have taken an uncanny interest in her mind and its contents.
It takes place in an unspecified time and location, in an anonymous city where everyone has two names and many people live each other's lives.
The plot gets rather confusing near the end, and just what happens in the final chapter is open to interpretation...
obviously, don't post it. however, if you get it published, i'll buy a copy Big Grin
Yes, if... The big ol' IF.
Thing is I have absolutely no idea on how to go about getting something published.
(by the way Mech, haven't seen you on msn recently)
connections man, connections. you gotta go down to your local book store and ask around. If you truly wanted to get something published, you should look at some modern day books, look for a publishing company, call it up and say you have an offer for them.
(you haven't seen me on msn because i've been working overtime every single day *faint*)
The only problem with a story of that size is it's not really big enough to be considered an actual novel, but it's not small enough to be considered a short story. Also, when you say 45 8½" pages is translated into 90 novel-size pages, are you counting the fact that they will be printed on the front and back of each page? If the 45 pages of 8½" size are printed on pages that are (approximately) half the size, but front and back, you will end up with 45 pages, right?

I'm basically in the same predicament, but my story is 70 pages of 8½" size. It's still too short.
Yup, that's just pages of text set to 'print size' in word... So it's on the back and front. I've already printed it out to make sure.
(yeah, I know it's at a tricky length... I had a perfectly good and definately not tacked-on idea for a continuation, but then again I'm rather happy with the ending as it is, so... hmm.)
My story was an 8th grade project that I started in 7th grade... and it just grew. But the deadline was the end of the year, and I rushed the ending of mine, so I might go back and rework it. I haven't looked in to doing anything in the means of publishing it, so I think it'll probably just stand as a point in time where I was pushed to writing a lengthy story and succeeded, and everyone said it was really good for an 8th grader. Wink
