It really seems that the death of QBasic is coming. Everyone speaks about FreeBasic here, everyone seems to try forgetting the past. But i think this is not so easy. I do not really want to leave the good old DOS.

So as a game came in my mind: Groov Buggies, which i had in the past, but now i could not find on common QB pages, i decided to create this topic: Let's collect the best old, possibly forgotten QB games! (Please not vote for your ones here)

So from me:
Groov Buggies: a 3D car racing game with track editor.
Qoop (I think): was an interesting simple game with MIDI music, i played it much some years before.
Don't be so tragic. QB/QBasic/PDS/VBDOS won't die. You know, the Sinclair ZX Spectrum line of computer started in 1982 and was commercially killed in 1992, but check this site: http://www.worldofspectrum.com ... There's lots of old timers releasing nice stuff and tweaking the thing to the limit. They have almost perfect emulators.

You know, I still play MSDOS games using DosBox, ZX Spectrum games using Spectaculator, NES games using Virtual NES, SNES games using ZSNES, Sega Mark III games using DEGA, Genesis/Sega CD/MD32X games using Gens... etcetera...

QB will be moved to emulation, that's all.
Its still around:

Some of Pasco's(the author) sites are still around:
http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/V...index.html
http://members.tripod.com/~Pasco_QB/

It only appears the the Subshock site and Pasco's demo site there have disappeared(I guess Tek deleted it or something).
I am not so tragic because of only DOS' death. My problem is that it looks like EVERYTHING is constantly tried to be shot by Micro$oft. No matter what are they, what not gives them money is something what can not live anymore. An DOS is currently a very weak thing in the case of emulation especially for Windows: there is just DosBox and VDMS. This last will surely die when the new version of Windows comes as it not emulates DOS completely.

So i think future is very very dark not just for DOS, for any programmer. There is no time to create real computer art in this subject anymore as technology goes so fast that everyone must hurry to the death...

But this topic was not created for this. Lets keep our subject:

I found Groov Buggies (made by Pasco) at:

www.petesqbsite.com/reviews/action/groove.html

From it's original home page it is not downloadable: the link is broken. For Qoop i find only one source, but that was broke: this game might have really "missed in action". That broken source is:

www.worldzone.net/computers/paladin/qbasic/files/rpgs/rpgs.htm

(It works, but the download does not)

Off again:

Strange: "Newest registered user: nathan". Without underlines. What??

DosBox has nothing to do with Windows or Microsoft, it is an open source project that is ported to many platforms, including Linux, BeOS or MacOSX. When the new version of Windows comes out it will be ported, most likely.

And it's normal that a business tries to shot the products that are not profitable. Businesses are about money, that's how it works.
(I did not talk about DosBox, i meant that VDMS will die. DosBox, as it is a complete emulator, will live as long as it is being developed. But VDMS can be killed...)
A good game what really missed:

Shadow Of Power

There is no way to run it on any WinNT based configuration...

(But on my computer it runs fine! Win95 rules! Smile )
Smile , This might sound odd,. but its the only prog I remember liking of any of the past that is, I got several I like now...

But Gorillas,. heh heh, I'd like to break it down one day and modify the gfx, but I'm doing other things, SpaceWarp, for example..

QB is only going to die if ppl let it die, you can always buy a old Tandy DOS comp at a GoodWill, Thrift Store, or Used Comp store.. or I think.  Or used WIN 98s, that be betta..
Or you could just dual boot. Wink
QB runs just fine inse dosBOX, so, whats the matter?
But, IMO, why should i use a restricted envoirement, when i can have the same fun with 99,9% the same language in a non restricted envoirement?
Heck, i can easily create 3D GFX now without thinking too much about math.
I can use the best cross platform libary on earth in one of the coolest basic dialects -> SDL, so why should i look back at GET,PUT,PSET and whatnot?

FB is faster than QB, there is even a DOS compiler for all those who love their DOS and dont want to switch.

So, where is the problem?
