VB .NET 2003 is VB7. It's a compiler. You can do... programs with it.

VB7 uses a new, evolved dialect of BASIC which is almost a pure OO language, in the C# or Java fashion, but with BASIC syntax. It's powerful and compiles fast executables that run over the .NET framework.

The .NET framework is a software layer that lies between you and your processor, just like DirectX or other software layers. Your programs would need the .NET framework, but more and more people get it installed as I believe it comes with WXPSP2.

The .NET fw has been created for portability. It's like a big API that can be ported to many systems so if you make a .NET program you can recompile it for another systems 'cause you are using the same API calls to the .NET fw. Currently, the .NET fw is out for Windows and some *nix variants (very early state).
:o Right place right time...

:???: Hmm, I always though the .NET was for web stuff,.. couse I've only got as close as a few pages in a reference manual at B&N.. oh well.. You learn new stuff every day, hehe.. Smile
OMG you lucky rascal! Big Grin
Rattrapmax: part of .net is asp.net, that part is for webpages. But that's not included with vb.net.
Right cool, guess thats what I heard, asp.net, hmm...

Yeah I do know that Windows XP Home can't use the asp to create web sites or something like that, heh heh, know I know what that means..
well i have no idea what the thing is for, but i know it's cool. can i use it to make actual programs, not just UI's?

Yeah, it goes up there with C++, it can be used to forum profesional programs, or what you call actual programs I guess.. Alot of these FB IDEs are being made with VB and C++, and I've heard alot of your profesional apps for computers are done up in C++..
print "i bought a FPS game, it was like warhammer firewarrior or something, anyhoo, i think int was made w/ .net and directX or something...cause i know it WILL NOT run w/out .net framework...
