Heres a Poll for my current site. I'm just wondering how it currently looks.

This is for the Main page only(New PNG gfxs), sub pages, well, I haven't got around to modifying them yet, and link town is still using BMPs... That will change probaly this weekend,. oh well,. Vote and post, post is optional.. heres the site:

:o Just been posted and 3 "Needs to be better",. you are voting on the MAIN page only right? And if you think it needs to be better. How does it need it, that be helpful? :wink:

1) Too many colors and different fonts. I thought the stuff in the top was an ad before I read the text.
2) The buttons are hard to read
3) If you need additional text to describe were a link will take you (speaking of the buttons here), you need to clarify the link ITSELF. In this case I think the buttons texts are clear enough tho, so just remove the additional text. And you could line them up, would look cooler.
4) The headers ("x.t.r gfx news" aso) looks really confusing with the shadows on. Again, keep it simple.
5) It doesnt need to say "Menu". You should only use headers in a navigation thing if you categorize the links, and with 4 links, there's no need to categorize.
6) There's lacking a linebreak before the first menu button. Or maybe there's not.. See? it's too messy.
7) Your logo looks like a button, which in turn makes it look like an ad.
8) You don't need to put on dates for when you created, recreated, updated aso. Imagine how long the list would get? And besides, no body cares to read anyway. Put dates on the news you post, tho.


These are all classical beginner "mistakes", and I made them myself back in the time, so Im not trying to bash you down, only to drag you up.

:o The x.t.r.GAPHICS News was ment to make ya dizzy,. I just liked the effect.. Sharp blue over a grey shadow makes it looks as tho its flying out at ya,. but oh well..

What do you mean by line them up,. make the bottons go across? down? there already down,. the text next to the bottons is a intro like text for the site not the URLs...

The MENU is there to take up the emty space created by the "Welcome to my site, Home to my Games and Projects" but if its in the way I'll scrap it..

Bottons are hard to read? hmm, I didn't have such a problem, but I know what I wrote on 'em so that might be the case,. :lol: ,. I'll take the flame out of 'em if that will help. :wink:

Dates on the bottom of the site, I just put them there so basicly I can remember when I created it, if I wrote it somewhere else, I'd just delete it by accedent,.. Dates on the news, I thought about that,. but I'll do it next time I update 'em.. :wink:

I hope you understand... And you don't need those texts next to them, they just take the focuz away from the menu and confuse.


Basic thing is, really, to keep a clean style, and you've stuffed too many different styles in there.

For example, take a look at the page you're viewing RIGHT now (this one yes), and watch how the colors are kept in few numbers: Blue, white, orange, and black. Also there's only one font face, Tahoma (might be some other like font around, but point is, they are very similar).

If you manage to fix these things up, you're growing up quickly Took me a long time to figure out...

Your site is somewhat 1993 internet retro style.
Just waiting for the big animating gif file.

Learn some XML, DHTML, or the usage of frames.

I know that i am not a designer, but my site works and is viewable without the risk of eye-cancer.

Sorry dude, but ATM your site is just a good example of how NOT to do it.

Damnation, not everything has to be perfect HTML. It's his personal site with his own stuff on. It's fine for him to make it look like he wants; besides, it's a very fitting design for the content: QB is retro and his site looks retro. It could do with straightening up a bit, but it doesn't need completely remaking.

The games page looks the neatest... interesting idea for the links.

IMO there are two main things to keep in mind when designing a site--readibility and content. Your site is good on the latter, but needs some work on the former. I found the black, orange, yellow letters to be difficult to read on my monitor. You did however manage to avoid the most common mistake made on web sites--dark blue letters on a black background. Your 3D shading with gray make them very readible and allows you to use the blue you wanted.

Yeah, I found some help when it cames to ainigifs in another thread,. I got a solfware with 'em, but doesn't make 'em, but I'm trying to make all the GFX for my site by myself, hence x.t.r.GRAPHICS.. so if I can't make them myself, I wont..

The yellow on the bottons, yeah I'll scrap that.. I'll move the bottons to a horizontal postion... and make them have a more readable color...

Shift? you mean the jump ancor,. click between the Games, Utilies/sound, and whats my last one again,.. oh, demos, thats it.. thats common HTML scripting or I thought...

Screenshots for your games would be cool...would increase the download rate I think....
