Hi.
I would like to get some suggestion about great/good emulators. I have WinXP and I like if it's quite simple (tried some amiga emulator and I had to load a Kickstart and disk images of Workbench) and if the emulators are compatible with the most "popular" roms. To put it short: I wan't to play roms and I wan't it fast

Interested in NES, SNES, N64, GC and AMIGA.

Thanks.
For SNES: ZSNES
Emulates the SNES perfectly and lots of peripherals - should work with any snes rom.

For N64: Project64
Arguably the best N64 emulator, you should try different audio/video/input plugins to see what works best with your computer and the games you want to play. (there are other sites that have Project64 plugins, but that link should have most of them)

For GameCube: Dolphin
Still new and experimental, but the best one so far. High hardware requirements (better have a GeForce FX or equivalent). The site has a compatibility chart - apparently a lot of games are now in the "In game" category (a step down from Perfect). I didn't know it had progressed so far.

I have no experience with NES emulators, but here's The Emulator Zone's NES Emulators page. They also have an Amiga section.
Here comes the cutting edge in compatibility and comfort

NES: Nestopia, has a nixe guy and a 99,9% compatibility rate
SNES: ZSNES! SNES9X has problems with sound. The others arnt careworthy
N64: Forget it, too many glitches and the games suck Wink
GC: Maybee 5 to 10 years in the future. Even some 3600 mhz AMD64 wouldnt catch up to passable framerates.
AMIGA: UAE, forget Fellow, use UAE!

Things you dont listed:
GB/GBA: VisualBoyAdvance... nuff said!
C64/C128/othe commodores: VICE, you need nothing more Wink
Genesis, also called Mega Drive: Without long thinking, Gens!

For news on emulation go to zophar.net
For roms... cant tell you where to get them... i dont know, ask oracle of google, the oracle knows everything Wink
I know of an emulator for the nes written in qbasic, if i could only remember the name, hmmm,

?.
? (
?.
The best NES one is VirtualNes.

For SNES I prefer Snes9X, I haven't had problems. I have all the SNES roms in a 6 CD set and I have some that don't run on ZSNES. Snes9X ran them all.

Project64 for the N64 work with almost every game I've tried. I had problems with DOOM64, though Sad

GC, PS2 or XBOX emulation are a no-no nowadays. You better wait a couple of years.

If you have a 2Ghz+ computer and a good video card, you can try Chankast, the best DC emulator. Gosh, I love playing Capcom vs. SNK 2 Big Grin

I can follow:

Amstrad CPC: Caprice32.
Sinclair ZX Spectrum: Spectaculator.
Amiga: WinUAE.
Atari ST: SainT.
Atari 2600 (VCS): Stella for Windows.
Sega Mark III (Master System), SC1000, SC3000 and GameGear: DEGA
Sega Genesis (Megadrive), SegaCD (MegaCD), Sega MD32X: Gens
Gameboy, Gameboy Color: REW
Gameboy Advance: Visual Boy Advance
Neogeo: WinKawaks
Neogeo Pocket: Boycott
CPS1/CPS2: WinKawaks, FinalBurn Alpha or Mame32K (kaillera)
...
need more? Big Grin

Oh, and don't forget ePSXe with its frontend for the PlayStation. Playing Alundra, Silent Hill or SFA3 is a must Big Grin
Yup...ZSNES has problems with WinXP... at least as far as I've been concerned. It seems to be a little more user friendly though. If I remember correctly, I couldn't get the gamepad to work right with SNES9X... prolly a prob with WinME.

One thing I'm sure of... PJ64 is a no brainer with WinXP. Wink There are a few titles that wont work... all in all it's worth though... The download and the hard drive space Wink.
You seem to have overlooked the Rolls Royce of the early British computers - the BBC. You can see the Shareware details and download over 250 working programs, some new some from the past, including 86 music files, and 60 old games at:-

Someone in this forum also found another Free emulator below, which plays more of the old games, but appears to be of little serious use, as I could not even get it to perform a printout. This is the problem of many other BBC emulators. You will find from my examples, the one above is capable of accessing API calls and the usual Windows Boxes, Buttons, and Menus.

Thanks guys for all the help. This really helps lazy-me so I just can go ahead and start download & then playing 8)

Thanks again!
I'm still good for ZSnes...It has never let me down...

Snes9X caused problems with not only sound but graphical issues in some games, and ZSnes played them all perfectly.

ZSnes also has the perfect GUI. No other word but perfect. It has actually spoiled me.

I've never tried Project64, I got Nemu from the start and it's pretty good. It give p64 a go.

Hmm, i ever thought the best british classical home computer is/was the Sinclair Spectrum? I just love that "remote control" keyboard where every key has at least 3 meanings Wink
