After just watching the incredible Bo Bice nail the competition on American Idol, I figure we hold a little compo here ourselves.

If you don't like competition, take it as a challenge.

The goal is to record and mix a cover of any song you like, and let the public here decide on who wins. Who knows, maybe in the future if this gets big we have our own eliminations etc.

Some ground rules:

1) Every single sound has to be an original recording, i.e. you have to record all the instruments that you want in the song. This means no royalty free loops or guitar riffs or whatever. However, I will allow percussion loops, since not everyone has the ability to record drums or whatnot. But this only is simple drumbeats...no drum solos or fill ins or anything spectacular.

2) No tracked music. This is not for that kind of music. I would expect an MP3 file (OGG is not widely supported as of yet) that was a sequence of recorded samples.

3) All songs must be covers. This is basically just a way to judge the song. In a composition, you can make allowances for mistakes saying they are part of it, but with a cover, you know the song.

4) Each song has to be done by one person. Now although there is no way for anyone to check that, please, be honest. You have to sing, play, record, edit and mix all yourself.

5) Host and link the MP3 file here, giving a description of what the song is, what instruments were played, software used, other stuff related to that.

I'll add rules if people ask questions that haven't already been answered above.

My entry is on the way...Big Grin
I might join. I've never joined a music competition before. Tongue

btw:
Rule #5 is a nul pointer... host it where?

I'm in Big Grin expect something weird.

Fear y'all Big Grin
DAMN MY WINDOW 95 LOAD OF ##@#^@#@# !!!!!!!!!!
What if somebody (me, for instance) doesn't have anything else than a computer and a cardboard tube!? Is he unable to join in then.... I mean... I have nothing else than my computer and a cardboard tube.... And I make music nonetheless, with a demo of FL Studio 5, a copy of Logic Fun, Audacity and a number of tabla samples...
Go for it then. Didn't I say drum and percussion can be loop based?

As long as you compose the music, I guess it's fine.

I mean I'll probably lay down some MIDI tracks for synth or soemthing, and those will be done on Guitar Pro 4.
