So I have this AVI video, but the volume is too low, even with all the computer's controls turned all the way up. Anyone know of a handy utility to amplify the sound?

there's a nob on your speaker to increase the volume.
hook it up to and amplifier.
open the file in a movie editor and increase the volume there(may reduce quality)
Free way to do it:

Download virtual dub (look in google). Open your video file in virtual dub. Go to the audio menu, select "full processing mode". Go to the File menu and select "save audio as WAV".

Open the generated file with an audio editor and raise the volume (normalize to 100% for example). Save it.

Go to virtual dub again, load the video file, go to the audio tab, select "WAV audio", load your modified WAV file.

Go to the video menu, select "direct stream copy".

Save the AVI.
Unfortunatly my speakers don't have knobs-- the ones that came with this computer are messed up, so I've got to deal with these really old ones Wink When I was searching, VDub did come up... but I couldn't figure out what to do with it. I'll try it again now.

you going to get some bad noise either way.
Aha! It was simpler than I thought. The file had its own type of audio compression, which came with its own configuration program. All I had to do was increase that volume.
