I can't get FreeBASIC to open up, I've installed the files, but when I go to open the program, it opens for a fraction of a second then closes. I'm running Windows XP if that means anything. Thanx for the help.
FreeBasic is a commandline compiler. meaning to compile a file with it: fbc yourfile.bas

or you can download and use FBIde: http://fbide.sourceforge.net
Maybe the Win32 version needs to have a dialog that pops-up when the command line is blank:

"Before asking the same question in the support group for the umpteenth-million time, please note that FBC.EXE is a command line compiler. Either drop to the command line or try one of our many FB IDE's being developed. Thank you and have a nice day."

Big Grin fbc.exe is NOT a programming environment like qb. you must write your .bas files in pure text, then use fbc. exe to compile them like

fbc.exe myprog.bas

look for FBIde or BE, theyre some of the best IDEs, you wont find an integrated IDE and compiler like QB, yet...
One of these "FB won't open" topics should be made sticky, just due to the large number of questions on this topic
Opps...my bad. But I want to try the example allegro program but it's telling me it can't find the .dll...what do I do?
read reamde.txt that comes with fb

People will do it anyways. If they don't read the readme, do you actually expect them to read a sticky post on this forum? Big Grin

I can dream! Big Grin
Indeed you can. Big Grin I dream of a day when Microsoft no longer uses its monetary power to drown out its competitors, a day when Puerto Rico becomes an independant country, and a day when FB can do COM and classes natively. Big Grin
