This thought has been occurring to me for the last several months, but I have procrastinated (as usual) in saying anything... here goes anyway.

I'm a senior in high school; I will graduate at the end of May. I have been working on FreeBASIC in almost every spare moment, but school is demanding more and more of my time. At this point, I need to decide between finishing high school with decent grades or supporting/improving the DOS port of FreeBASIC and the Allegro headers etc. I have decided that I will give priority to school; I have only one shot at this, and it will be over very soon. I don't want to screw up the rest of my life for something that can wait a few months. In June, I will be out of school and will be able to dedicate more of my time to other things, such as FB. I'll be working 40 hours a week, but I won't have homework. I'm very sorry, and I apologize for spreading myself too thin. I will still be occasionally coming here during the next two months and attempting to fix problems, but don't expect anything miraculous until June. Thank you for your understanding.
Very smart move, DrV. Very smart. Smile
Actually, I've been thinking the same thing. I'm a grade 12 student myself, and will be finishing in the beginning of July. My marks ain't quite what they used to be, and there are some things I need to get done.

Go for it, and may you do well Dr. V. Best of luck doing well finishing school... Your right, there is no excuse for doing badly in school just for a freebasic project. Freebasic will come and go, but how you do in school will affect you forever. Telling universities that your a guru in freebasic isn't quite going to get you in, i think. Wink
I'm a sophomore in high school, and my grades aren't too good, either. (My lowest is an F, in Algebra II. I'm a horrible algebra student. I wish it were geometry again...) Anyway, I should probably do something about my grades, but I don't. I'm one hell of a lazy man. So, DrV, I commend you for taking the action you have. Nicely done, my friend.

Now... if only I could get off my lazy ass and do my homework... :-P
Homework? That was easy compared to being in the real world Wink

Seriously though. Study up now and it'll pay off in the long run.
metalfoot speaks much wisdom. Big Grin
It's not a studying factor - I know what they're talking about ('cept math.) I've never scored lower than a 90% on any test this year ('cept math.) I'm doing generally well ('cept math.) :-)

But, if you're talking about doing homework. Well, yeah, some people refer to doing anything outside of school that is school-related as "studying," whether it be homework or just simply... studying. If you're talking about it in that sense, yeah, I could use a bit of motivation. It's the fact that I'm lazy, and the fact that I feel really out-of-place ('cept math.) I'm the only guy with long hair in my school besides Phil and Seth and I'm one of the only metalheads in my school. I'm a nerd and a geek and whatnot, but I don't care about that. It's just that... well, people are dumb. :-)

Why am I telling anyone this? This thread was about DrV. Sorry 'bout that.
Thank you all for the kind and encouraging words.

As a rule, I don't study; that's not really the major problem right now (though it probably will be in college). The problem is that I've been lazy and just plain stopped working on some of my classes. I'm getting a C+ in the easiest class I've ever taken (a required one). That looks like crap on a transcript with all As and Bs. I do'nt want to lose scholarships or get kicked out of the college I've been accepted to or miss the requirements for the high school diploma I want because I goofed off my last semester of high school.

On a lighter note, my spoon is too big.
Get a smaller spoon, pass school stuff, continue to pump out 3D stuff.

Sounds like a plan?

I thought so ^_^
I am a banana! :-D
