Okay, the thing is, I'm trying to raise a certain amount of money so that I can visit a friend up in AK, and the only thing stopping me (unsurprisingly), is the cost for plane tickets.

So basically, I'm trying to think of ways to raise money, and this is one of them. I've been doing webdesign for about three years now, and I'm now to the point where I can say that I can make some really good stuff. As far as HTML design goes, I can probably create just about anything anyone wants, from simple looking designs, to large ones with sidemenus, content dialogues, and stuff like that. I don't have a portfolio, but here's a screenshot of a site I'm working on (that some of you may know)

As for the prices, I'll probably charge somewhere between $99 to $150 (meaning that the price could be $99, or $150, depending on just how crazy the site gets).I'm mainly used to things being sent out by checks, but if I look into it more, I could probably learn how to use Paypal or something.

And also, if anyone's working on a game or something, I could do some sprites for them. If anyone needs to see the stuff I've done, then go ahead and ask me, and I'll send them to you by e-mail, but yeah, if I'm given a description of what's wanted, the size, yadda yadda yadda, I can try to have it done. Just note, that even though I consider myself decent at sprites, I'm not a spriting God, so some requests may need to be haggled upon. The prices charged here will depend on the sprites themselves (but it'll probably be ranged somewhere near $2 a sprite, unless I find out that amount is ridiculous)

But yeah, I have to be heading out to school. I'm hoping I'll get at least one customer, because I'm trying some stuff in real life as well to raise a bit, but yeah, I'll be happy to work for people. =]
Ask Josiah Baldwin. He used to hang out here, he's still on MSN but I think I lost touch with him awhile ago. Apparently he was very successful in webdesign, selling several $1000-range deals.

Anyway, I only tried to do that, I never got it off the ground. However I did make a few really really tiny deals, one which I was about to start and then the guy realized he didn't want a site, and one which I did extremely simply, for $20. Both were to people I knew very well, and both had small businesses.
I found that trying to solicit services on the internet or to general strangers never worked. Go to people you know with small businesses, or Churches/Synagogues, or other community centres/organizations. Most, if they don't already have websites, would be open to paying a kid to make them one.

Just my two cents.
On this forum, most people who want sites have one or can make one themselves. HTML is something you sell on a programmer's forum. Never.

Instead, scour the internet for disgusting websites, and contact the company and offer to redesign for a price. I did it once, and after about ~1 month of searching and rejections, I landed a deal wherein they were going to pay me 150 bucks for a redesign. It didn't work out though, because they weren't willing to mail a check or anything, and Paypal isn't accepted here.

Personally I feel this market is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to saturated. There are many professionals who will do a better and faster job than you (don't be a moron and take that the wrong way), for around that price, but probably a bit more. Those professionals will code compliant, cross browser code and probably offer management services as well. If the guy can't make a site, he certainly isn't going to find it easy running it.
Have you tried dabbling into Visual Basic or the sort? programmers can make alot of money, but the price of VB itself is extreme..
I probably should have added the fact that I'm in a "small" hurry with this (about two months to raise the money), and any long-term negotiations would be out of the question, which is what makes this even more far-fetched. I know most of the people at this forum already have some webdesign experience, and could make their own sites, but then again, people here would probably be the most interested in having a website at the same time. I go to a fighting game forum, and if they wanted a website, they'd probably be a good target, but unfortunately, most of them don't even know how to run a website, and not to mention, they probably wouldn't be able to afford it (since most people at game-based forums aren't usually above 20). But like I said, I opened up the sprites as a possiblility as well, since as you said, there's a smaller chance of me getting anything from here.

But on the other hand, sure. There may be some professional programmers who could whip out a site faster, and better than me, but not much better. I'm at the stage where I can easily say that webdesign for me is more of an art than a mental challenge. And I could easily provide instructions with 'updating' different aspects of the site. Because of my server being down, it's been a while since anyone's seen anything from me, but I'm pretty darn good if I say so myself. *And as a side-note, I've updated the image up at the top. You could see this is as 'evidence' that I'm really good, or you could see it as nothing special. The site's a work in progress right now, but for now, it's all that I have for my portfolio.

(and ignore the actual content. It's all a bunch of random test-submissions and crap)

Lord, I suck at business... =[
Ever considered hitchhiking?
Yyyyyyyyyyyyyep...
If web design doesn't work out you could always sell stuff you don't need on ebay.

Or you could make a website asking for $1 to be dropped in your paypal account per visitor (If you tell them your purpose you might have a chance).

Lastly, you could see if you can get a loan and pay it off when you get a job.

Eno, your answer was so simple, yet... so perfectly effective. Time to harass my dad to use his account. =]
If you're only charging 2$ per sprite I would probably do it, but there's no way I'll be aloud to send money to someone over the internet.
