After installing Ubuntu Linux to make it work, i have a weird problem in W2000.

Windows finds adt boot a dummu disk whose name is like a GUID (something like \\{xxxxxx-xxxx-xxxxxx-xxxx}\ ), it tries to scan it, decides it's not a windows drive and takes ages to start.

I have started windows from the CD in repair mode and repaired BOOT and MBR (so losing GRUB) from the console.

Has someone any Idea about how to solve it?

It's still having that problem even after you did that?
Yes, unfortuantely.
As the "disk name " looks as a registry entry, i found it in the hardware-drives list and deleted it but it has reappeared.

Don't want to use my Win rescue disk as it would return Win to the SP4 state (with 39 updates missing ,IE 5, the original notepad.....) and it's not sure it will solve the problem..
Antoni, I think W2k is trying to read the Linux partition, which it obviously cant. So either edit the registry to "disable" that drive or somehow delete it. I am not a windows guru but I don't recommend messing with the registry without taking a backup.
Check the boot.ini file on the root of the drive you have Windows installed on. It should have one entry for Windows and no other entries. You can configure the Windows boot manager to work with Linux; there are tutorials around. It requires a little bit of work... LILO is better, in my opinion.
Thanks for your ideas.
I solved it, dont' know how.Big Grin.I did several things, one of them was to use Ranesh partition manager to fill the unpartitioned space on the drive with zeros.
