This is way, way off the subject but it might cause some interest in the quest to try to keep our email clear of much of the **** we are bombarded daily.

I registered with beloved eBay awhile ago, thank goodness before it became mandatory to divulge credit card details to register, but have never discovered how to unsubscribe with them. I doubt I will ever attempt to bid for anything, especially if I am expected to quote credit card details, because I am continually being bombarded with wretched spoof emails. So if I did bid for anything I would never know if emails purporting to come from eBay were genuine or not! As instructed I did send copies if these spoofs to some security section of eBay, but they still keep coming, so I have to block them all at the server, as listed below.

I wonder if anyone has a clue if any of these eBay addresses are genuine. I certainly have no intention of replying to any having never placed a bid, for fear of collecting a virus.

accounts@eBay.com
aw-confirm@ebay.com
billing@ebay.com
eBay@reply3.ebay.com
harleygilmore_ds@paypal.com
services@paypal.com
suspension@ebay.com
update.confirm@paypal.com
It doesn't matter whether the email addresses themselves are legit or not as you can spoof emails and pretend to be one of them.

Look at their content, and ebay email is probably going to be html with lots of logos and their information. If it feels as if they are asking something they don't need or that they are wanting you to do something that you feel uncomfortble about, get under a different free email account and email ebay whether this is legit or not.

It's not so much a matter of cutting yourself off completely from the site, but being intelligent in what you do with it.
Thanks for your advice.

I do not think everyone gets these endless ebay spoofs, but perhaps I get more because I manage six web sites all with my email adress on. The daftest was one claiming to come from paypal claiming to have dedicted $18 form my accout. which was pretty damn clever as thank godnes they do not know my credit card number!!

LOL

Apparently, here are some details:

accounts @ ebay.com - http://www.fraudwatchinternational.com/a...ebay.shtml

aw-confirm @ ebay.com - http://www.fraudwatchinternational.com/f...3_ebay.htm

billing @ ebay.com - http://www.fraudwatchinternational.com/f...6_ebay.htm

ebay @ reply3.ebay.com - http://www.fraudwatchinternational.com/f...4_ebay.htm

harleygilmore_ds @ paypal.com - ***

services @ paypal.com - http://www.fraudwatchinternational.com/f...paypal.htm

suspension @ ebay.com - http://www.fraudwatchinternational.com/a...ebay.shtml

update.confirm @ paypal.com - ***

The ones marked with *** means I couldn't find anything on them.
Thanks for your help, and the interest you guys are showing, especially as it has nowt to do with QB/FB

So are you suggesting I send a copy of the spoofs to the addresses you quote. When I tried to unsubscribe from eBay they just wanted to know why. When I told them i was fed up with all the spoofs, they asked me to send copies to spoof@ebay.co.uk but they still keep coming.

There's a good chance the spoofs you get from these people have nothing to do with ebay and they are just broad spam messages. Even if you do unsubscribe from ebay, you won't stop getting the emails, so I guess it really doesn't matter.

You could always change email addresses. Only give this email address out to people you know. Then use your old email to fill out all forms and such. This will greatly help keep the spam counts down.
I don't recommend sending emails to those addresses because you might get spammed even more. Spammers tend to have friends. Smile
Thanks.

You are quite correct. But I do not see why I should have to change my email address I have always had just to please eBay. Actually my list of Blocked addresses at my server contains a number of other pests being blocked.

The answer is I doubt if I or my family will ever want to use eBay especialy as we now have no way of telling which emails will be genuine. I suspect many others must be deterred form using eBay for the same reasons.

A pal of mine claims that installing some fancy Toobar from the eBay site protects you from the danger of opening spoof emails!! The following copied from eBay does not appear to say so??

Gordon

eBay Toolbar is a free tool that gives you quick, easy access to eBay from your desktop. It keeps track of the items you have bid on and those you are watching, and alerts you before those listings end so you can place a bid if you'd like. It could mean the difference between forgetting to bid and winning an item!
