okay, i got this new computer, see? It's a laptop, see? we happen to have a wireless router at home, but it's secured using WEP. I managed to get myself connected to the router after many hours, but I can't do anything... it's like im in a network where the laptop is the only computer, as it's the only computer i see even though one or two other computers are online. I can't connect to the internet. I probably did something stupid, but i don't know what. Help would be appreciated.

Btw, in order to connect I had to manually give myself an ip address, which happened to be 192.168.62.53. Before it wouldn't connect, saying i needed to renew my ip address... ipconfig /renew said that it couldn't renew due to something not being plugged in or whatnot, so i tried to update the ip address myself in the properties menu. it allowed me to connect but now what i described above has happened. any help is appreciated!

p.s. i also put in the default gateway address. And, ipconfig tells me that no operation can be performed on local area connection while it has its media disconnected.
did you put in the right WEP key?

You can still get a network connection without the right WEP key but you cant do anything
also, I think there are setting somewhere on your router that has access restrictions and such. I know mine does. Though....we couldn't figure it out so my dad just told me to disable the protection..... :-?
Just use MAC address filtering if you're having a problem - WEP isn't secure anyways.
