Dearest splendidly AWESOME Pete Berg and all of the QB45/QB71/FB community ( d=:king:=b ! ),

A *most* spectactular evening and week to all of you, and I have an excellent story idea that is gonna take some group effort. Follow me now! Smile !

Ok. Since we are nearing the 1st official anniversary of QB Express right as we speak, you know, I was thinking of putting together some special little retrospectives of the awesome things that happened since the very first issue of this magazine was introduced nearly one year ago. And I am gonna need your help on this one, people, even on these brightly-burning questions related to the first 11 issues of the mag, such as:
  • • What is the best and *most* inspiring QB or FB tutorial that has ever been written for QB Express 1-11?
    • What was the BEST ground-breaking news story that has ever been introduced from within the first 11 issues?
    • Which excellent QB/FB programmer/group do you think should be nominated for the QB/FB Legends of the Year award?
    • What is the BEST game review that you have ever read in QB Express 1-11?
    • What is the WORST game review that you have ever read in QB Express 1-11?
    • What was your favorite upcoming game/project that has ever been featured in the “Gallery” section from the first 11 issues?
    • Which excellent QB/FB site do you think should be nominated for the QB/FB Site of the Year award?
.....and *so* many more that we can all think of together!! :bounce: ! Just think of this now as something rather uniquely special that we can do annually for QB Express, in the case of when an anniversary for it comes like this here! Big Grin=b

Like I said, this one is gonna take a group effort, and I am doing whatever I can to help put QB Express over the top to even better heights where such sheer greatness is concerned!! Cool

Catch you all again, and do be sure to think about this important one, ladies and gentlemen!!! :king: !

My input may be a bit different from everyones but here it goes
(i have checked every zine by the way, but I dont remember everything)

• What is the best and *most* inspiring QB or FB tutorial that has ever been written for QB Express 1-11?

I liked nixon's text based games tutorial.

• What was the BEST ground-breaking news story that has ever been introduced from within the first 11 issues?

Either qbnews shutting down(even though I was here when it happened) or when I found out that you could play connect 4 online in QB. Never knew it was possible to go online in QB.

• Which excellent QB/FB programmer/group do you think should be nominated for the QB/FB Legends of the Year award?

Hmm, I would have to say Z!re with his MOORPG game.

• What is the BEST game review that you have ever read in QB Express 1-11?

Dunno which one too choose Cry

How bout scorched plantes review by Zap?

• What is the WORST game review that you have ever read in QB Express 1-11?

I don't feel like hurting anyone's feelings Tongue

• What was your favorite upcoming game/project that has ever been featured in the “Gallery” section from the first 11 issues?

Nek's Two Lords looked really cool when it was featured in the gallery.

• Which excellent QB/FB site do you think should be nominated for the QB/FB Site of the Year award?

Honestly, I would choose www.petesqbsite.com. My runner up would be www.qb4all.com but they seem to be down recently.
Let me start off by saying that this is an excellent idea. every twelve issue should have something like this :-). and nwo to answer the questions. :-)

• What is the best and *most* inspiring QB or FB tutorial that has ever been written for QB Express 1-11?
- This is a tough one for me because since I didn't have much of a game coding background I can say I've learned alot and enjoyed reading any and all game related tutorial. If I was to point one of them out, it's a close call for me. But I believe I can say that

• What was the BEST ground-breaking news story that has ever been introduced from within the first 11 issues?
- I'm sure I won't be the first to say the closing of QBasicNews (QB Express #10) Not just for the fact that QBasicNews was shutting down, but for the harm it did to the community. Like Pete mentionned, the forum the server etc etc were Wildcard's but the contents belongs to the community and even in rage this fact should be remembered :-).

• Which excellent QB/FB programmer/group do you think should be nominated for the QB/FB Legends of the Year award?
- Most Definitaly, I have to say Los Monos Del Obos (aertherfox and Na_th_an). And the reason I nominate them is QUest for Opa Opa, it's a good solig complete game, story is good, humor is good, game is intelligently built with a great deal of attention to details (in text descriptions and in other parts) that makes this game a complete experience. But I nominate Los Monos Del Obos because they took a game and completed it, in a pretty good time which also reflects a good synergy and teamwork between the two members.

• What is the BEST game review that you have ever read in QB Express 1-11?
- Again to me it's not hard to see that Zap's review of Scorched Planets (QB Express #7). For one thing, it has to be the most detailed review of any game I've seen written anywhere. For another I have to say it is also the fairest of reviews done like it should, unbiased by the game or the maker of the game. Great work there :-).

• What is the WORST game review that you have ever read in QB Express 1-11?
Without pun or malicious intent, I have to answer Joseph Burke's review of Quest for Opa Opa (QB Express #9) simply because the whole review was designed to bring the game down in the scoring and in the description. Atleast it's the impression it gave me. A review of a game should be made based on the type of game it falls under hence the scoring was inadequate.

• What was your favorite upcoming game/project that has ever been featured in the “Gallery” section from the first 11 issues?
- the Inspiration Engine from Wallace Software has to be the most promising (QB Express #5) I'd like to know the progress of it's port to FreeBasic. Just look at it :-). it pretty much speaks for itself especially considering the screenshots in #5 were QB screenshots.

• Which excellent QB/FB site do you think should be nominated for the QB/FB Site of the Year award?
- Out of the sites that were talked about or announced in QB Express 1-11 I would have to pick Jacob Palm's website (QB Express #9) for it's attention to details and it's openess to suggestions. He is currently implementing a new, better, more detailed review of his guis (and the guis to come) and just that effort is already awarding him good points, in my book :-).
I've only read bits and pieces of the issues, so I don't really have much to say. . .

Quote:What is the best and *most* inspiring QB or FB tutorial that has ever been written for QB Express 1-11?
Rel's OpenGL tutorial (using SDL) for FB.

QBN!

Now that's asking for tute #2. Big Grin

I have so many requests to continue the series that I may have to continue it at all. :*)
I only looked at it because I was bored and looking for something new. I figured I'd explore FB's graphics capabilities and OpenGL popped into my head.
To MystikShadows:

In your reply, you brought out such captivating and worthy points that I want to mention now! Big Grin

Quote:QBasicnews.com[/i] forums since it recently closed and reopened, you simply"]Like Pete mentionned, the forum the server etc etc were Wildcard's but the contents belongs to the community and even in rage this fact should be remembered Smile.

You know what, Pete is *absolutely* correct 100% on that, and I thank you for bringing up that point into this, my man! Smile ! Apparently, there is just no doubt on people’s minds here in these forums that this one will likely be a big-time candidate for best ground-breaking news story that took place from within the first 11 issues of QB Express indeed, but let me tell you that that closure there shocked the VERY hell out of a lot of us ( :???: ! ), especially since it was given without any warning whatsoever, MystikShadows. I mean, no wonder the QB45/QB71/FB community migrated apart to different forums and other stuff when that surprise move first happened! So rather sad, ain’t it? Cry !

As for the content of these forums belonging to the community, man, you and Pete have both hit the bullseye on that one, because this excellent point needs to be well-considered and taken into such dead-serious account, most especially when running a forumboard such as this, too! Point so truly well said, MystikShadows!! Big Grin=b !

As for you choosing Aetherfox and Na_th_an as nominees for the QB/FB Legends of the Year award that I have talked about just now, I think that they are really and truly good candidates, MystikShadows, especially on the *wonderful* work they did on their original text-based adventure game The Quest for Opa Opa, fresh from FB!! Big Grin I mean, anyone who dare thinks that text adventure games are just outdated and dull had better give this one a try ( Cool ), because it does have a quality and very interesting RPG-based storyline, plus, I gotta love the fact that the music/ambience that these two people have put in there really draws you right into this game like a magnet, my man!! That alone sure deserves a BIG thumbs-up from me!!! d=Wink=b ! Text-adventure creators in FreeBASIC, PLEASE TAKE NOTE!!

And finally, as for Joseph Burke’s own review of The Quest for Opa Opa from Issue #9 of QB Express, I believe that you wrote another powerful point from your reply which said:

Quote:A review of a game should be made based on the type of game it falls under.....

Also, at first glance, when I first looked at Joseph’s review indeed there, I simply thought that Cha0s’ own review of that same game was a TRUE masterpiece compared to this ( Tongue ), you know what I mean? I am not bashing anybody *or* Joseph himself, but rather in a way, I honestly feel really sorry for him, man, you know? Sad !

All I am saying is that game reviews in FB or QB should just cut right to the chase into getting real about the game itself (and such aspects of it as graphics, sound, gameplay, play control, and others as well) and tell it like it really is, without being biased or compromising. Period, end of the conversation. Wink Three VERY good examples I am talking about here are Lachie’s own QB/FB game reviews, Zap’s original review of Scorched Planets (FB), and my own review of Battle Pong as well.

With all of that down, be seeing you later, MystikShadows, and thank you on your TRULY thought-provoking reply!! :king: !

You're very welcome Adigun and thanks for the very detailed reply at that :-), yeah the shut down definitaly did cause it's share of havok so to speak. But you know what I also noticed? Look at the reactions there has been about the shutdown, some were mad, some were sad, some people didn't know what to think and some knew too well what to say ;-). But all in all I think they all had something in comon. QBasicNews held a very important place in the heart of most. I remember saying there's alot of people here and in this diversity comes a very varied reaction to messages, events and others. Well we've all seen it in those varied reaction. What's good about it is to see how important QBasicNews was (and most definitaly still hope IS) to everyone here. That's the one thing I realized :-) and it's good to see :-).

Now come on people :-) answer them questions so we can tally things up :-)....deadline is July 15th for the next QB Express so get typing :-). not that much time left.
