Does anyone know of a completely safe program that can be entirely trusted to clean the Registry of all the unnecessary entries accumulated with Windows XP Home.
I was once foolish enough to use software which previously worked ok Windows 98. As a result I lost the use of such as Windows Help and System Info.

Not to make you feel bad or anything, but I've never found the need for such a program; as long as you use correctly-written programs with decent uninstallers, the registry should stay relatively clean. That said, I would most likely trust such a utility if it was part of a utilities suite from a large, proven company; perhaps something like the ones covered here:

Thanks,
I understood if you are in the habit of trying a variety of software/languages, the registry is liable to get cluttered up.
Whenever I ran a Freeware package called EasyCleaner with Win 98, it often found a load of *** that was safe to remove, and this PC is inclined to crash at times, though it could be the 4 year old hard drive I expect.
