I know this is a worldwide problem, but our prices rose 35c a litre from 104.9c to 139.9c per litre. Overnight. All this on the back of a stronger economy and dollar, and the FALL of oil prices. What the hell is happening?

The US has it easy at this time in comparison to us. After some conversion, the price per litre is almost half of what Australia is paying.

On the flip side, spare a thought for German motorists who cross the border to slash 80c a litre off their own price of the Australian equivelant of 260c per litre.

I remember as a kid petrol was 40c per litre and LPG was 10c. LPG is still under 50c. Why don't I convert to LPG? On a car now valued at $7000, it will still cost me $2500 to convert. The average family can't find this sort of spare change in a whole year. If ths price doesn't fall to less than $1 per litre within 18 months, I will be forced to sell my beloved 3.8L V6 Commodore and get some Asian imported 4 banger.

I'm disgusted.

>anarky
well, the USA in the '80s payed $90 per barrel (or something like that), and the gas prices would have been bad to be above 0.60 cents per litre (not sure about gallon pricing), and now they pay about $60 per barrel and we have gas prices above $1 per litre

there is definately something wrong with the system

oz~

NOTE: the figures i've gathered are not for sure, and may be completely wrong - i'm just going from what i remember

Tongue Horse hay finialy went down.... *ahem*

Nice car,. Tho I might have the wrong year...

As for the prices, yeah, we do have it better,. but I think are overall econimy isn't.... The people who complain are the ones who have a hard time affording it.... notice that's a lot.... ... Course you do have random greedy rich people who might stir a complaint or two...

Also, Asian cars, if I had to chose, are by far the best you can get.... Japans finest, Mitsubishi, has a few 4 bangers that would most likly eat your V6 alive.... Tongue
The problem with gas prices isn't that they are so high, it's the rate they rose. In the past month I've seen gas prices rise 70 cents. And in certain cases higher. Some states went up a few dollars.

If this were over the span of a few years, this wouldn't be so bad, but to be hit with this all at once, hurts people. The economy isn't prepared enough for the gas prices to raise like that, therefore people have problems affording the gas they need for work.

Also, it's different in the US than in Europe and other countries that have the higher gas prices. Granted you pay more for the gas, but you have better options for public transportation. There is no real national public transportation offered to most places in the US. Major cities have basic transportation systems, but that doesn't help the people that live 2+ hours away from the city, but still have to work there.

Also when you compare the size of US to Europe. The US and Australia are about the same in size and Australia is about the same size as Europe so to say gas prices are so much worse there is a bit tough. Driving the average distance to work in the US would be equivalent to driving between some countries in Europe.

Really, this arguement that the US has it easy and that they should not whine so much is bullshit. The culture shock of the soaring prices (raising so fast) and the comparison of sizes between US and Europe makes it really undebatable.
Well, in Germany we have to pay 1,41€ (1.75USD) for 1 liter super gasoline (unleaded)! :x

That's inexpensive for the US. In my city and surrounding cities (USA), the lowest price is around 3.14USD and the highest is around 3.79USD. That's probably inexpensive compared to prices in big cities like Chicago, New York City, etc. (I've heard around 5.00USD to 7.00USD !)

Ouch. That is about $6.00 US per gallon. Here in Texas we are fortunate to have a lot of oil, but our prices are close to $3.00 per gallon as well.

The whole thing about oil prices always changing seems to be (from listening to the eggheads on this) is the way it is bought and sold through the markets and doesn't seem to have any real relation to supply and demand.

That's per liter not gallon. Multiply that by 3.
I'm just going to buy a moped. If you think about it, it's pretty stupid to drive a full sized car all the way to work with just one person in it anyway. If more people drove mopeds, there would be less demand on oil. Heh, the world might even be a more peaceful place... after all the oil boars kill each other off, or find something better to do with their lives. I'm getting to the point where I'd just like to have an electric moped.

Sorry, I forgot about that. This is why I dislike the US's measurement system.

By the way, quote pyramid!!!!
