What is your favorite compression format?
Mine's definitaly rar :-)
Can't beat RAR by much. 7z is great too, but I like RAR better. Although, I'd have to say that GZipped-Tarball is pretty awesome too. . . So many too decide from. . . Why must I be so indecisive? :-P
I like ZIP. I've been using pkzip and pkunzip since the late 1980's. In 1993 I actually bought my own registered copy of version 2.04g, which became a defacto standard. I used just about every option that it had and never had any problem at all.

Now I also use WinZip when I want to zip files with long filenames. But I hate the idiot user interface. I love using pkzip from the command line or a batch file or even a shell command.

I don't know what RAR is. How great can it be? Will it run for 18 years without any failure, like pkzip?

I like zip and rar.... pitty I can only pick one.. Cry

@ Moneo: It's a higher compression rate than .zip.... Makes for a lil faster transfer of large files...

Well RAR compresses files even smaller than .zip, and it can decompress any of the mentioned files in the poll I believe. Big Grin
I'm definetly a rarman.

Unless you are compressing extremely large files, like over 500 MB, the reduction in the size of the compressed file is really not a factgor today. It was pertinent in the old days when you put your compressed file onto a diskette.

Regarding the ability to decompress files from other utilities, I personally wouldn't trust this feature. If I compressed with ZIP then I want to decompress with ZIP, to be absolutely certain. And the same goes for compressing/decompressing with other utilities. You're just begging for problems otherwise.

Hey, don't get me wrong, if you're happy with RAR, use it.

You're only in troulbe if you RAR it to its limit. Same goes for 7zip.
What happens if you compress a RAR, the compress that in a ZIP? :???: .. Double compression? :king:
