Those who are not familiar with my project I'm collecting all worthy QBasic games ever made, testing them, archiving them, adding extra instructions about running them if necessary and building a QBasic games MySQL database in order to create a site one day. The goal is to preserve and popularize(if possible) QBasic games. All the information you need to know is on the preview page.

On the preview page you can check all the games archived so far exported in HTML tables. The MySQL database features 11 sections available for each entry from title, developer to score, description and download(not available in the preview, of course). I’ve finally tested all the games/demos I got so far(over 400 of them). There is a lot of work to be done but most of it(as far as MySQL database goes) is done. Since the last preview I started taking screenshots of games because I've learned how to do that in Windows using an MS-DOS screen capture program Screen Thief. Using DOSBox for that takes too much time. Snag-It! was useless. Anyway, since I was not taking screenshots from the beginning 321 are taken so far. To give you the taste of the final site I’ve enabled screenshots in this preview page so you can check the screenshots of most of the games in the preview. This preview also features pages that will appear on the final site like "Running QBasic Games" or "About QBasic Games Directory".

I really need some people to test quite few games I'm unable to test since my PC has Windows XP installed. Those are mostly the games with FutureLib VESA routines or the ones that use DS4QB and where you can't bypass it. It's all on the preview page. Not all games pending for the database which I’m unable to test are downloadable because it’s inconvenient for me to host all of them at once. I've spent HUGE amount of time on the database so I hope some of you will be willing to sacrifice 15-30 minutes to help me out.

I also need feedback on the project in order to improve it.

LAST NOTES:
Since VPlanet reviews are online now the directory will be updated with almost all the games reviewed there. Most of them have already been downloaded.
I've found the full version of Wrath Of Sona which works fine on my PC so ignore that note in the "Pending Games" section.
I've found a version of Ped Xing's Quest which works in Windows XP and it will be uploaded later.
All the places where the word "graphic" was incorrectly used in the descriptions will be corrected. All the descriptions will be recheked any many corrected since I noticed many of the are poorly written. I don't know what I was thinking.

I would probably release a much better and corrected preview page if I had few more days to work on it but since I don't know when I'll be online again I decided to show what I've done so far.

Thanx for your interest.
I thought you didn't want demo's, yet I saw at least one in there (star angelic slugger) :???: It makes me curious.

If you want a demo or two in there, I'd put in Unnamed (or was it untitled?), made by FrozenEmu and Tsugumo. It's got an excellent battle system, midi music, and a storyline (which most qbrpg's didn't have. Wink) Yes, it's a demo, but it's a good play.
Quote:Awfully boring game where you control robots and execute various mission with them. Top down view. Good story, terrible gameplay(boring above all). Poor graphics

 I made that back in my semi n00b days,... A nice rating I thank.... I'm remaking it tho, so you can expect the good story on a nice 3D platform.

Lol, thanks for putting my (99% mine) game up.

"A terrible game where you control some sort of object which is supposed to be a bike and jump/destroy objects. Terrible graphic and zero challenge value."

Well, at least it doesn't have any bugs.

:rotfl:

EDIT: Maybe a recharge timer would help? Or :barf: ?
I think you are rather ambitious expecting a lot of QB DOS games to run on any current version of Windows. I suggest you try running the non working under DOSBOX, and then inform all which need DOSBOX.

Do you want to try a few more games form my site?

Gordon
Speaking of nOOby daze... I made a crappy Tankwars game. Has anyone seen that one? !!!Pathetic!!!
I know I didn't see it...;-)
Nice work Lachie, a huge task to do all that work!
Good work, but please please tell me you are going to use PHP to display the MySQL db dynamically. I will be forced to murder you if you dont. By dynamically I mean include the ability to sort by field, search etc.

All those games I tried in DOSBox. They either run too slow for me to test them or not at all(probably a problem of DS4QB which is a 32-bit library and usually hates Windows XP).

Give me a link to those games you mentioned.

Kiz, the plan is to create a PHP site. But I know 0% of PHP at this point so the future is grim. But like I said, it's important to archive these games and create a MySQL database. Someone else can continue on the project. I won't force anything. I know some of you might be inpatient about the release of the site but I'm not. We'll see.

Barok. Yes, I do include some demos. It's all explained in the preview pages.

I'll try to find the game you mentioned. But if you have a link I would be very grateful.

EDIT: Never mind. Found it!
