What desktop environment do you prefer?
Most people here use Windows =p
That's easy to forget if you're in a place that has a cult-like belief about non-Windows operating systems.
Didn't you two noticed the "Others"...

*Others: Windows Upside down (Tool bar on top of the screen), Silver scheme, ect... 8)
Well, some people... If you ever went to the petesqbsite general discussion forum(join the linux :barf: revolution!) you might just think it is a cult...
I prefer the feel of GNOME myself, KDE is just to clutered for my taste.

Out of intrest, what is the reason for the intense dislike of Linux on this forum?
Does it have to do with QB being a Mircosoft product?

Or does it have to do with people using Live CD's to test Linux?
It somewhat infuriates me when I read about someone having a bad experience with Linux when using these products. This is not the fault of the end user at all, but rather the producers of these CD's for not stating the truth:
LIVE CDs ARE NOT REAL LINUX DISTROS!
They are extreamlly limited in thier capabilities, they can not (usually) save data, they must use a bare minimum of features inorder to fit on a CD.
Live CDs were originally created as tools for repairing other computers. In this use they a good. I use them all the time to fix problems on other peoples computers. (linux, mac, win, and once BSD)

At the same time I am angered when people install Linux and expect it to be instataniously understandable by them. This can not be. You didn't start up Windows (or DOS for the old timers (or a C64 for me)) and stat to code in BASIC. You had to learn first. You needed to read books, ask questions, make mistakes, fail a few times (fry a CPU in my case).
The same is true of Linux (indeed true of anything, Full stop.) You need to play with it first.
What I am NOT saying is that Windows is a piece of crap or that you should be burned at the stake for using it. I am very specificlly NOT saying that. Why? Because I don't believe it. I use windows too (albeit less and less the more comfortable I am with Linux). I use a Mac too. I am open minded. I'll use whatever I think is the best tool for the job.
All I ask is that both sides of this argument do the same. Cease this petty "MY OS IS BETTER"/"NO MINE IS 1337er!". Use common sense please. Use real arguments.

Dislike? So far, the only thing that is disliked about Linux is the fact that there is no FB IDE for it. Other than that, I've heard nothing flaming MS (well, not too much) or Linux.

Methinks you have been hypnotized and information has been put into your head. :-P

Oh yeah, KDE r0x0rz.
hate linux? I'm dual booted with fedora core 4. Now I just gotta get the network adapter working on it. Wink

noone clearly said they "intensly dislike" linux here. We just get fed up of silly posts like this which dont even seem to accept windows as an operating system. Just like this post: http://forum.qbasicnews.com/viewtopic.ph...89&start=0 Apparently us windows users have "room temperature IQ"

which, oh surprise! Was made by you.
Gnome. -Since that's what comes with ubuntu by default.
I dualboot with XP that ubuntu fried (business strategy? Tongue , no honestly, it seems to have to do with my graphics drivers.)

And I tend to like gnomem more and more, since it's more customizable
than XP without having to download stuff.

And open source is never wrong is it?

There is some things that will keep me from ditching the XP for good:
Starcraft lags and is quiet in wine, though there is someone who is
planning an official port.
Anim8or has no linux port so I'm stuck with blender3d that is much
harder to use.
I'm more familliar with the MS office suite, which imo is better than oO.
